An Autumn-Themed Wedding in Calgary, Alberta

Bride and Groom

Tanya and Johnny met on New Year’s Eve in 2006 through mutual friends. It was love at first sight. However, after three years together, they decided to split up. After more than a year of separation and being convinced that was the end of their relationship, they had crossed paths again unexpectedly. Their love was instantly rekindled. “This time our bond and love is stronger and we know we are destined to be together,” explains Tanya. Their rediscovered love was what sparked their choice in wedding song, “After All” by Cher and Peter Cetera.

Throughout their relationship, the two had an ongoing joke about proposing with a twist tie instead of a ring so when Johnny eventually got down on one knee and handed Tanya a ring box with a gold twist tie inside she thought he was merely kidding around. “I started to laugh thinking it was all a joke and then he pulled out a diamond ring,” she says, “being in shock, I pushed him saying ‘no way!’ and he fell over. We both laughed so hard! It’s such a great memory for us.” Tanya still has the gold twist tie to this day.

For their big day Tanya and Johnny planned a fall-themed wedding with rich shades of red and yellow. Maple leaves lined their ceremony aisle and lush orange-hued lighting made their reception space glow with warmth. Pumpkins and orange blooms were used to create an autumnal ambiance throughout the day and guests were gifted with maple syrup bottles in the shape of a maple leaves as favours. Tanya’s favourite wedding detail, however, was the wedding cake — a three-tiered masterpiece decorated with a large gerbera daisy.
