Tanya Mayhew and Brett Lewis had one demand of their whimsical summer beach wedding: that guests would have just as much fun as the bride and groom themselves. A carefree couple — and former middle school classmates — Tanya and Brett decided early in the planning process to gift their family and friends with an honourary donation to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in lieu of traditional favours. Their “wish” theme was born shortly after, encompassing every detail of the whimsical summer beach wedding, from the wishing lantern release to the shooting stars adorning their wedding stationery. In a creative twist, Brett and Tanya incorporated paper cranes, which, according to Japanese tradition, warrant a wish if 1,000 of them are folded. Having spent the previous months folding 999 paper cranes, the couple folded the 1,000th crane together in the middle of the ceremony while friends and family looked on, shaded by parasols. The whimsical summer beach wedding continued with a BBQ, fireworks and dancing into the night. With an abundance of bright decor — including lemon centrepieces and turquoise star lanterns — Tanya and Brett’s radiant, heartfelt celebration left guests grinning from ear to ear.
