A Non-Traditional New Year's Eve Wedding

  |  By Vanessa Campbell

Michelle and Johnny wanted a wedding that was completely outside the box. "Our aim was to host an event that reflected us and who we are, and we are not really the formal or traditional type," shares Michelle.

The couple opted to host their celebration on New Year's Eve. The first portion of the night was very intimate with a guest list of just 15 people. "At 5pm we held an intimate, private ceremony on a glass-enclosed rooftop patio, which was followed by dinner and drinks in a private wine cellar for the group," Michelle explains. Afterwards the couple held a full reception at 2nd Floor Events. "There was passed food and a late-night poutine station, endless amounts of wine, champagne, beer and scotch, engaging speeches from Johnny and I, our parents and our maid of honor and best man, fire eating and LED light performances, masquerade masks, glitter photos walls, lots of dancing, incredible music and 130 really fun people," Michelle remembers.

In true New Year's fashion, sparkle was the prevailing theme of the evening. "I had also asked all my best girlfriends to wear something sparkly. There were sparkly cocktail dresses, sparkly crop top-style dresses, sparkly jumpsuits, sparkly pants – it was a fashion show!" Michelle exclaims. The shimmering theme also carried through into the decor. "We were going for a modern-day Studio 54 glamorous," explains Michelle. "We had lots of gold and silver sparkly elements including the two huge photo walls, metallic letter and heart balloons and disco balls."

"Getting married is so romantic. It’s a wonderful way to express to your significant other that you want to be with them forever and be their partner in this life," says Michelle. "And we got an opportunity to have everyone we love in one room to celebrate with us. I will remember our wedding for the rest of my life."
