When Halyna and Art initially met, they never imagined they would be tying the knot in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico four years later! Art’s proposal came a year earlier on the wild beaches of Costa Rica. The couple wanted an intimate, outdoor wedding with a Ukrainian and Latvian theme and a neutral colour palette with pops of colour characteristic of a Mexican wedding. They decided against the traditional beach wedding, opting instead to have their ceremony in the garden at Villa Hacienda Corazon with their cocktail hour and reception taking place by the pool and in the courtyard at the same property.
One of the couple’s favourite moments was their ceremony. It started to rain just as the guests were arriving. The rain only lasted about twenty minutes, “enough time for all of us to get a little worried,” laughs Halyna. Everyone was anxious to start the nuptials. Just as the couple said their vows and were ready to put the rings on their fingers, the sun came out. It was a very symbolic moment, signifying a bright, prosperous future for the newlyweds.
The reception, complete with a traditional Mariachi band, was another highlight of the day. The newlyweds were also particularly pleased of their carefully crafted wedding favours. They put together wedding CDs, which featured a collection of their all-time favourite love songs.
