Seating Setback

Q: Are the parents’ tables numbered? Are they given seating arrangements? We are only assigning guests to a particular table, not to an actual seat.

A: Table numbers are not as important as where the table is actually located in proximity to the head table. Parents have a lot of mingling to do and many guests will want to come over and congratulate them, which will be more difficult if there isn’t a good flow around their table. Parents should be seated:

  • Close to the head table but not up against the wall. Have them placed in good eye range of the bride and groom.
  • In no particular seat, assuming that the rest of the guests at their table realize they will want to be staring at the happy couple!
  • At a table that will be served by staff immediately after the head table.

I know a lot of people who put the parents table on either side of the bride and grooms table, so that they are still at the front of the room, and have a perfect view of the couple and the evening. The Brides parents table is next to the bride and has parents and siblings or aunts and uncles and the grooms parents table are next to the groom. it seems to make everyone happy and you never have to worry about them being treated like every other table
