Q: We’re getting married at 6 p.m. and our dinner starts at 7 p.m. at the Hall. We have already arranged it with the Hall and the caterer that the bridal party will arrive at the hall at about 7:45 p.m. after pictures are taken. The dinner is buffet style and the bridal party is scheduled to arrive after everyone is seated with their food. How can we keep our guests entertained during this hour or so, especially while they are waiting to go up and get food?
A: A great way to make sure guests are entertained at the reception while waiting for the bridal party to arrive is to enlist some helpers to be waiting at the reception site. These helpers could either be waiters from the caterer or your wedding planner. You should ask the helpers to facilitate introductions among guests, light candles and just generally ensure everyone gets seated okay. There should be music (live or recorded) playing in the reception hall, and make sure drinks and hors d’oeuvres or snacks are being served. Having hors d’oeuvres will help tide guests over while waiting for their dinner. Guests generally expect to wait for the bridal party, so don’t worry too much. With a couple of helpers and some food and drinks, the time will fly by!
