Love Poems To Recite Instead Of Traditional Wedding Vows

When it comes to saying "I do" you might feel that the traditional vows just don't represent you and your relationship. Writing your own vows is a more personal option, but you might not feel comfortable doing that (or feel that it's too much pressure!). Fortunately, there are lots of meaningful poems that can be recited in lieu of vows at your ceremony. We've isolated three of our favourite alternative vows for you to consider for your celebration.

"i carry your heart with me" by E.E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it

in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere

i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done

by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear

no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want

no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows

higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Apache Wedding Blessing

Now you will feel no rain,

for each of you will be shelter for the other.

Now you will feel no cold,

for each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there will be no loneliness,

for each of you will be companion to the other.

Now you are two persons,

but there is only one life before you.

May beauty surround you both in the

journey ahead and through all the years,

May happiness be your companion and

your days together be good and long upon the earth.

"Something" by Mary Barnet

Something has struck a beneficent cord in my heart

I bless the world he says and I,

I experience the bliss

of what is

my life

There are a thousand kinds of kisses

millions of songs

countless poems, written since the beginning

even dinosaur poems perhaps.

my breath in your presence is the deepest of kisses

Life, I love you too much.
