Gifts for the Wedding Party

Q: I need to know what is customary to spend on gifts for your wedding party? – Erin

A: Dear Erin,
If you mean in terms of how much, it all depends on your budget, and how meaningful the gift is. If you’re curious as to what kind of gifts are usually given to your attendants, it all really depends. Anything ranging from jewellery to tickets to a day at the spa are some really popular items for bridesmaids.

I think you could win an award for most unhelpful, unspecific answers…the comments are much more useful.

As a bridesmaid I once had a bride who, instead of purchasing presents for us, paid for our bridesmaid dresses. Standing-up as a bridesmaid in a friend or family members wedding can oftentimes be expensive so this gesture was greatly appreciated ! !

I am a destination bride (getting married in Aruba) and am trying to think of some unique wedding party gifts that correspond with my destination. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of purchasing gift certificates for parasailing or snorkeling. . .something they could enjoy while we were on our resort. . . .thoughts. . . . .

I spent about $60 per bridesmaid. I got costume earrings for them to all wear at the ceremony from a jeweler in town, and they were about $30.00 each and then I got little jewelry rolls to put them in, which they loved because then they had those for travel as well instead of like, a box for the earrings or something. :) I got them on Etsy from “punchanella”… super cute.

I was told approx $50 – but you want it to be personal. No one wants something they will never use again, nor that flasks for all of the guys. I got the girls earrings, bracelets and hangover pills that they would use again, and guys are all getting something custom to them (golf club, cigar cutter, etc.)
