Far and Away

Q: Most of our close relatives that we would like to be with us on our wedding day live far away from us. Do we have to send a save the date followed by a formal invitation or just the invitation? When do we need to send the save-the-dates?

A: If you want to ensure that your family and friends in distant places will be able to make it to your wedding, you should send save-the-date cards. This will let them know about the upcoming wedding and give them time to organize their transportation and any other details. Save-the-date cards are generally sent three to four months prior to the event, but can be sent earlier if desired. The actual invitation should be sent six to eight weeks before the wedding.

Here are a few things to consider doing for your out-of-town guests.
