Win One Of Three Copies Of The Jane Austen Marriage Manual

The Jane Austen Marriage Manual is definitely one of the must-read, buzzy books of summer and we’re thrilled that HarperCollins has provided us with a few copies to give away to three lucky readers. We’ve just finished this delightful and delicious book, written by Kim Izzo, a Canadian girl who also just happens to be a good friend of Weddingbells and an engaged lady herself. As the title denotes, the story is absolutely Austen-influenced and chronicles the love, life and times of  Kate Shaw, a single freelance writer between magazine gigs, on the verge of the big 4-0. Kate ultimately lands an interesting assignment that changes the course of her life—answering the question is it possible, in these modern times—and at a certain age—to marry well? Trust us, you will love where Kate’s adventures take her and the book is the perfect escape from wedding planning.

To win, you need to tap into your own creative juices and tell us who your favourite Jane Austen heroine is and why. We’ll pick our favourite two answers. Contest closes May 30 and is open to residents of Canada only.

UPDATE: Congratulations to our contest winners Robin and Melanie! Enjoy your books.

My pick is Marianne Dashwood. Really it would include the bond she and her sisters and mother have to stick together through the tough times. They go through the loss of Marianne’s father, lose a great deal of wealth and social standing and have to move to a more modest address. There’s the inevitable relationship errors but in the end they stand together and everything works out.

Marianne Dashwood – through such a journey filled with ups and downs, she matures and realizes the meaning of true love (which one of us can not relate to that!)

Good old Emma Woodhouse would be my vote, the stubborn girl who takes it upon herself to create matches in love, to the despair, and sometimes frustration of her friends. She is young, pompous, and thinks she is always right. She has the best intentions, but things just don’t seem to happen the way she thinks they will. She reminds me of one of my bridesmaids who is a never ending source of opinion, always with the best intentions towards others, but her foot never seems to be very far away from her mouth, causing much chaos and laughter along the way.
