A New York State of Mind
I’m gearing up for a four-day stay in the city that never sleeps, getting some R&R at the Jumeriah Essex House, which overlooks Central Park. The hotel has some serious history, first opening its doors in 1931 and most recently undergoing a $90 million renovation to refurbish many of the Art-Deco details it was known for. Also in the hotel is the modern American cuisine restaurant South Gate and for those who enjoy a traditional afternoon tea (we definitely do!), it is also served in the Lobby Lounge every afternoon. Other plans on the intinerary include some dining out, spa-ing and of course some shopping (personally I’m dying to hit up Top Shop, which opened less than a year ago). I’ll be back with some great ideas for your honeymoon or a girls weekend away! Plus, if you’re looking for your gown NYC has tons of amazing bridal options, as Nicole scoped out last time she was in the city.

Hi Stephanie,
I’ve been to afternoon teas all over NYC and thought that I had visited them all. I completely forgot about the Essex House – thanks for the info. I will definitely add them to my itinerary next time I’m there. P.S If you ever make it to London, try the Dorchester Hotel.
Oooh you’ll have so much fun I’m sure! I’ve always wanted to go to NY. Can’t wait to hear about the trip, all the bridal salons, and if you got to take in a Broadway show! :)
Great blog! We’ve actually booked our honeymoon at The London NYC and can’t wait to experience the sights and sounds of the city. Can’t wait to read your follow up!
