Considering a Veil? Read This!

A veiled beauty at Romana Keveza's Spring 2012 show.

Are you on the fence about wearing a veil? You’re not alone; many women are, with most brides ultimately deciding to go for it. I mean when are you ever going to have to oppotunity to wear such an accessory again in your life? Andrea Anastasiou, owner of the chic bridal boutique White Toronto, agrees and has seen so many brides walk through her doors with absolutely no intention of wearing a veil, but once they try one on, become smitten. “Give yourself the opportunity to try on a veil,” Andrea says. “Most girls are surprised that they end up loving the look of a veil. The notion I think is that many feel it’s so traditional, but it is for a reason! When you’re a bride, it is only for a day and a veil often tops off the look and creates a bridal feeling.  There are moments that are iconic on the big day, ones that your really don’t want to miss out on capturing, walking down the aisle and lifting the veil are two of them.” Andrea shares she often hears from her brides that they don’t want a veil, but that 85 percent end up choosing one in the end. “It’s so cute to see the attitude completely change once you put a veil on their head! It makes them truly feel like a bride.” Here’s Andrea’s five things to consider when it comes to veils. Read the rest of this entry »

The DIY Birdcage Veil Experiment

Ok, so I called this post the The DIY Birdcage Veil Experiment because I wasn’t really sure I could pull this off from the get-go.  Before you read on, I will happily report that the experiment was a success, thanks in no small part to the multitude of DIY websites and forum posts that I found on the subject.  I tried a few of these out (like this one from oncewed.com and this one from bridalguide.com) but in the end came up with my own simplified version of this project by Made by Amy, which I have laid out step by step for you here. As you can see, the supplies and steps in this project are minimal. I trimmed down the one by Amy because, well, with all the millions of things to plan for the wedding I figured the easier, the better! So here you go, my DIY Birdcage Veil… Read the rest of this entry »

When I got married, I wanted to do something a little different for my headpiece. A veil just didn’t seem to “fit” the look of my dress or my own personal style. So I started searching for alternatives to get ideas and found that there are tons of options (and price points) when it comes to head pieces for the modern bride. I wanted to share some resources and ideas if you find yourself in a similar situation. Here are four examples that can fit regardless of whether you’re looking to save or splurge!
