Tori & Dean’s Sweets Table

Photography by Elizabeth Messina (kissthegroom.com).

Have you seen it? It’s ahhh-mazing. My Sweet & Saucy was the lucky sweets shop who had the honours of creating a deliciously-looking sweets table for Tori and Dean’s vow renewal celebration. From a beautiful artsy cake to cupcakes (topped by lemondrops) everything looked sweet and chic, just like the couple themselves. Want a close-up of all those treats? Be sure to check out My Sweet & Saucy where you can get an eyeful of all the duo’s yummy desserts. Enjoy!

Most Awesomest Marshmallows Ever

Owner and baker Rosie Daykin makes these marshmallows look so yummy and appetizing that if I were in Vancouver I’d head straight for Butter Baked Goods and order some right now. Available in 18 delicious flavours (we hear their raspberry is the one to try), these fluffy sweets would definitely be a wedding favour hit amongst your guests. For more marshmallow-inspired goodness, get a load of their s’mores and whoopie pies–also a surefire way to wow the crowd at your wedding.

Sweet Inspiration from Dylan’s Candy Bar

Dylan's Hot Chocolate

Is a sweets table on your wedding reception must-haves? If so, you just might want to take some inspiration from candy connoisseur Dylan Lauren (daughter to Ralph), who opened her first candy store in 2001 and most recently published her first book, Dylan’s Candy Bar, which hits shelves tomorrow. The flagship store, which is located in New York City, is 15,000 square feet and has more than just chocolate and gummies. Here you’ll find a soda fountain, over 100 ice cream and frozen yogurt flavours, a cafe and bakery! Other sweet treats Dylan’s carries includes bulk candy (like gummy worms, to peach rings), novelty candy and even nostalgic stuff like Pixy Stix and Pez. We’re big fans of the cute packaging and classic chocolate bars. In Dylan’s new book she shares her creative ideas for taking candy and transforming tables, gifts and parties, as well as shares some sweet recipes from fondue to cocktails. May be a place to find some wedding ideas?

Now’s the season to cozy up with a cup of something warm, so while you’re browsing through wedding mags (like Weddingbells!), you can whip up a REAL hot chocolate. Just follow the recipe below straight out of Dylan’s new book.

From Dylan’s Candy Bar by Dylan Lauren

Makes 1 cup

1 cup whole milk

5 tablespoons (1 ½ ounces) Dylan’s Candy bar Belgian Chocolate shavings

Or 1 ½ ounces good-quality dark chocolate or milk chocolate, finely chopped

1 teaspoon sugar (if using dark chocolate)

2 spoonfuls whipped cream

1 tablespoon mini marshmallows

Heat the milk in a small, heavy saucepan just to a simmer over moderately low heat.

Whisk in the chocolate and, if needed, the sugar. Whisk until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Serve in a mug, topped with whipped cream, marshmallows, and extra chocolate shavings.

Crafty Wedding Cakes

To all you Winnipeg brides, if you haven’t found your cake you may want to take a peek at Vanilla Bean Cakes! I cannot say enough good things about this awesome cake shop. Every one of their designs are super-gorgeous and look inviting to eat. I was particularly drawn to these three cakes. The first, a warm home-sweet-home dessert table, the second a replicated wedding cake for the couples’ anniversary and, lastly, a gorgeous chocolate wedding confection decorated in cute buttons and ribbons.

Cupcakes With Zing

Could alcoholic cupcakes (aka cocktail cupcakes) be the next best thing? I learned about this new trend from Nicole, who tasted her first Guinness cupcake ever at an event last week. Intrigued by the idea, I went on the hunt to see what other alcohol-infused cupcakes were out there and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there’s, well, A LOT! From what I hear, they taste amazing–you can barely taste the alcohol at all. One enticing recipe that I found comes from Hostess Blog who posted this neat Mint Julep Cupcake Recipe. Apparently, this wonderful treat has all the makings of a fine Mint Julep drink in the form of a mini-cake. Looks refreshing! Wonder if there’s a Pina Colada cupcake recipe floating out there somewhere…
