Wedding Do: Send your Save the Date

A Save the Date, or as the girls in our forums like to call it STD, is one of the most important things to think about when it comes your celebration–whether it’s via digital and/or print. Read the rest of this entry »

Save-the-Date Video

Yumi & Barry – Save the Date from Barry Phillips on Vimeo.

Need inspiration for your save the date? How about a video? I can’t say enough good things about this idea, which was created by two of my good friends–Barry and Yumi. Both are avid dancers and major music enthusiasts, so it seemed only natural for them to combine their love for both into a fun and interactive save-the-date for their wedding guests. Don’t you LOVE it?

Super Hip Save the Date

When our Multimedia Producer, Kyle Wilson, who’s in charge of making all of our videos look amazing told me I had to check out this Save the Date video, I knew it had to be good. Filmed in a style reminiscent of nü-vintage filmmaker Wes Anderson (of The Royal Tenenbaums & Fantastic Mr. Fox fame), the couple Hayden and Sean definitely thought outside of the box when it came to letting their guests know about their wedding. Personally I love it, but I’ll let you watch and be the judge of it yourself.

Save-the-Date Cookie

I have some exciting news to share. Rather, Weddingbells, has an exciting announcement. In honour of our big 2-5, we’ve decided to throw a fun bash at the end of April to celebrate this momentous occasion. And, to kick-start the party we decided to send these beautiful save-the-date cookies to all our guests (an awesome idea for those of you looking for unique ideas). On screen the design looked promising, but in person they look even more delightful. We worked with the talented Samantha from Flour Fancies, who not only delivered a pretty cookie, but a delicious one as well (I ate mine–hence the bitten cookie image on the right!). So, thank you Flour Fancies for creating something so gorgeous for us–we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Capturing our Hearts

Various wedding magazines, TV shows and Weddingbells’ most recent Reader Survey informed me that the average cost to get married these days is around $20,000.  As much of a dream as it would be to have that sort of money to spend, the reality for many couples, David and I included, is that we simply can’t afford it. Which is fine—the most important thing to us is having our closest family and friends share in the day we celebrate our love and commitment to each other, regardless of the lavishness of the decorations, or the poofiness of my dress! Cutting down on costs has led to many outside-the-box thinking sessions and DIY projects—watch this space!—but we decided the most important thing to actually spend money on was photography. How are you Saving the Date?

{image via Wedding Paper Divas}

As I mentioned earlier this year I have about eight weddings to go to. So far, I’ve received about three save-the-dates, all very pretty and unique (one a bookmark, one digital and one your basic invitation). Can’t wait to see what the rest of the brides have in store for their guests. In the meantime, here are some fun and additional ideas on how to spread the word: Read the rest of this entry »

Luxury doesn’t have to mean $$$$$!

Back of postcard-style Save the Date

I think most girls dream of a Prince Charming to come and sweep them off their feet, and of walking down the aisle on their wedding day. I’ve heard some stories of girls knowing what they want since they were 12! However, I don’t think as girls we truly had much of an idea about the dollar signs that come along with most everything you shop for. Read the rest of this entry »

Jamaica’n me Happy, Mon!

WBFeb10_STDsSo here’s the deal.  Growing up, I always wanted to have a big winter wedding.  In fact, I went so far as to say I wanted an outdoor wedding, in the snow, wearing a giant ball gown with a (faux) fur coat and hand muff to keep me warm…you know, ride in on a sleigh and all that.  Oh, I also said I would NEVER wear white—in fact, I wanted to wear a bright colour (possibly red?) and have the bridesmaids be the ones wearing white, just to keep things “interesting.” Oh boy, have things changed!  Now, years later, my ideal wedding is an intimate affair, on a beach in the Caribbean with nothing but Mother Nature as the backdrop.  Sigh, I can hardly wait to be there in May.
