32 Unique Ways To Set Your Tables
Posted October 28th, 2011 | 12:58 pm | By Bailey Spagat | No Comments
It’s all about presentation when it comes to wedding decor and the way that you set your tables can ultimately convey the overall tone of your wedding. Candles and bright colours are warm and inviting, especially for fall and winter weddings, while classic china and burlap linens illustrate vintage and rustic themes appropriately. Remember to incorporate touches of your wedding colours to keep things consistent. Also consider how you plan to serve guests dinner when creating your table decor. Will plates be on the table when guests arrive? If not, what will sit in their place? Think of unique ways to display your wedding favours as well — they can really add that fun (and personal) finishing touch to your tables.

Vendor Spotlight: The Caterer
Posted March 3rd, 2011 | 5:46 pm | By Alison Westlake | No Comments
We’re in full wedding swing now but you know choosing our vendors has been relatively easy because it’s about people. The biggest thing we’ve learned is that it’s better to go with someone you really get along with. You’re going to be spending a lot of time with this person and if your personalities clash, it’s a recipe for disaster. I’d say easily, the vendors we’ve chosen are people we would happily have over for dinner. We feel we’re becoming fast friends with all of them. Which brings me to introduce an amazing lady who I can honestly say rocks! We were so drawn to her fun loving energy and talent, no one came close to making us feel as confident and respected the way Bonnie did. She didn’t pressure us into going a head. There was never a point where she made us feel we were wasting her time. Bonnie rose above as the true professional.
With out further adieu, allow me to introduce Bonnie Kubica of BE Catering! Read the rest of this entry »

Classic Cocktails for Your Wedding
Posted February 4th, 2011 | 12:29 pm | By Stephanie Gray | No Comments
Last night Nicole and I were invited to a Classic Cocktail party, put on by the LCBO, with special guest Janie Bryant, award-winning costume designer of Mad Men. As huge fans of the show, we were thrilled to go. Nicole even got a chance to speak with Janie and get her take on wedding dresses! (Stay tuned for that post). In addition to loving the show, I am personally loving this throw-back to ’60s-inspired cocktails and appetizers. If you’re looking for a signature cocktail for your wedding or even a theme for your engagement party or bachelorette, I suggest you consider going for a ’60s theme. Read the rest of this entry »

Wedding Do: Determine Your Menu
Posted January 25th, 2011 | 8:30 am | By Nicole Keen | No Comments
One of the most memorable parts of any wedding is the food, which is why what you serve your guests is of the utmost importance. When it comes to deciding on a wedding-day menu, there’s a lot to consider. Start by finding out if your venue handles the catering in-house, or whether you will be required to work with an outside caterer. Secondly, consider your budget and the size of your guest list: some menu options might not be viable for a large group of people (or might be outside your price range). Decide whether you’re going to have a buffet-style or sit-down dinner format. Last but not least, remember to provide your guests with options (and accommodate attendees with food allergies and special preferences). Need some menu inspiration? We asked three Canadian caterers to share their thoughts. Check them out here!

The Planning Continues
Posted January 20th, 2011 | 2:27 pm | By Alison Westlake | No Comments
Hey fellow brides, if you’re anything like me you feel that bridal shows might confuse you more than help with this whole decision making process. I’ve avoided shows until now because some questions were just not getting answered and then missed the ever famous show at the Carlu this weekend. However, the planning must go on, so I decided to turn my search to the cuisine.
With all the local farms around this fine little city, someone should be able to produce a menu that is organic based fresh and delicious at a reasonable price point, right? I’ve got my heart set on a caterer in Peterborough and I’m excited to meet with them this week but my family is urging me to see what’s happening locally and I think it’s a good idea. The first booth I was greeted by was a local caterer and they had me at hello. So friendly and knowledgeable and incredibly helpful — these are the kind of people you want at the forefront, working hard for your business. The more I learned, the more excited I got. I Googled the chef and was so pleased to see he was the real deal. We’ve got some high profile restaurant industry friends (sorry to sound like “that” girl) and they said his food was good. That’s all I needed to hear. I’ll let you know what we decide. Read the rest of this entry »
