Ever wondered what Christian Louboutin wears to a wedding or what a supermodel serves for dessert? Well the September issue of Vogue answers these questions and more. The magazine’s most coveted issue is covered by Moss clad in purple Alexander McQueen and features a cover story that leaks all the sumptuous intricacies of her wedding soiree (written by wedding guest Hamish Bowles with accompanying never-before-seen images by legendary photographer Mario Testino who also shot the issue’s cover).
In the story Kate explains how she ultimately decided to marry Jamie Hince, the 42-year-old guitarist of the critically acclaimed rock band The Kills, after watching a documentary series called Big Fat Gypsy Weddings. “I am so romantic about Gypsies,” she explains to Bowles. “They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at sixteen. You can’t believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times ten; they can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius. I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day—let’s do it!”
Kate also speaks to Bowles about her anxiety planning the event: “Let’s put it this way,” she says. “If I didn’t have my friends. . . . I don’t know how people do it. I’ve had big birthday parties, and I’ve thrown parties for other people, but this is a completely different thing. It’s the Met Ball! Because you have to look at every piece of cutlery; the details are intense. And then you wake up thinking about the ballet shoes for the girls; is the satin ribbon right? I [went] mental. Jamie [thought I was] mad, asking, ‘Are you gonna be all right? After the wedding, I’m hoping you’ll get back to normal!’ ”
The result of all of Moss’s fretting is one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever seen. Her hope was to create a dreamy mood reminiscent of the 1920s — “rock-’n’-roll Great Gatsby” is how she describes the theme.
