The Best Bridesmaid Fashion Idea from J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons

Last week, J. Crew opened its first-ever Canadian store at Toronto’s Yorkdale Mall. In town for the grand opening party, Jenna Lyons, the company’s president and executive creative director, charmed the crowds in an eye-catching green sequin pencil skirt. Indeed, Lyons and her admirable personal style has undoubtedly added to the brand’s appeal in recent years—devoted legions of fans head to jcrew.com each month to view “Jenna’s Picks”—and her unique outlook on fashion can be felt in J. Crew’s wedding offerings as well. The brand’s bridal lookbooks, featuring fresh-faced brides and bridesmaids in effortlessly chic ensembles, are a constant source of inspiration. Needless to say, we were eager to chat with Lyons about what constitutes modern bridesmaid style. As it turns out, for Lyons it’s all about the mix. She was recently part of a bridal party in which each bridesmaid wore a simple white t-shirt and a floor-length sequin skirt. We absolutely love this idea! Separates can be just as chic as dresses for your girls, so don’t be afraid to mix things up—the results will by worthy of Jenna’s stamp of approval!

Pearls.. A Girl’s Best Friend

Nothing says classic and timeless more than a pearl necklace, agreed? Personally, I love seeing them clustered together as seen on J. Crew. There’s something so fresh and modern about this look AND not to mention, they pair wonderfully with strapless wedding dresses. Read the rest of this entry »

Bridal Fashion Highlights of 2010

Rosettes were one of our favourite trends from 2010. This headband by Dessy is a perfectly pretty accessory.

It’s that time of year when everyone starts looking back on the year that was, so I thought I’d do the same. To say 2010 was a big year in the world of weddings would be a major understatement. First and foremost, this past year marked the 25th anniversary of Weddingbells magazine! Not only that, but there was a flurry of celebrity weddings (Carrie Underwood, Hilary Duff, Alicia Keys, Chelsea Clinton, Coco Rocha and Nicole Richie all tied the knot in 2010), a plethora of inspiring fashion trends and a royal engagement. Phew. So, without further ado, here are some of my fashion highlights from 2010.

ROSETTES

Everything was coming up roses this season. Whether on a gown or in your hair (see left), this feminine flourish is definitely here to stay. Did I mention Dessy makes adorable accessories?

Shopping For Your Own Bridesmaid Dress

{dress via J. Crew}

Would you let your bridesmaids choose their own dress? Seems to be a hot topic amongst some of my recently engaged friends. Coincidentally, last week my cousin informed all her bridesmaids (yes, that includes moi!) that we’re free to choose our own frock. The only conditions were that they were to be black, short and chic of course! Anywho, I’ve narrowed down a list of 12 options–I have a few faves–but as many of you know it’s hard to judge a dress based solely on photos alone. However, by popular demand, which of these gorgeous gowns would you have your bridesmaids wear?

Wedding Movie Alert: The Romantics

Opening in select theatres tomorrow–The Romantics, filled with an all-star cast including Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Adam Brody, Elijah Wood, Dianna Agron and Candice Bergen, looks like an altogether romantic film filled with lots of laughs and major drama. Based on the novel “The Romantics” by Galt Niederhoffer, the film follows seven close friends who reunite for a wedding of their two close friends. However, the plot thickens as problems arise between the bride (Anna Paquin) and the maid of honour (Katie Holmes) who have a long-standing rivalry over the groom (John Duhamel). Sounds spicy! Watch the trailer above for a preview.

Bonus: J. Crew collaborated with the celebs (sans Anna Paquin) to create a fun photo shoot. These three are my faves–the cupcake shot especially!
