Being Cost Conscious

WBFeb10_NicolasI feel fortunate to have my fiancé give me free-reign to plan the wedding as I see fit. I love this about him but I also want to be budget conscious. For me, having a lavish affair would be OK if we had the money for it, but it is not nearly as important as having all of our loved ones with us to share the day. We still want the day to be about our union but cost is a huge consideration. We have fixed expenses from years of living together, student debt, and children.

Thus, the decision to get married in our backyard has been vetoed! Read the rest of this entry »

Backyard Wedding Here We Come!

I’ve never been to a backyard wedding but I imagine it would be quite beautiful and intimate.  Having just moved in to WBFeb10_Houseour first house, I thought, “What better way to celebrate our wedding than to invite friends and family to our home for the affair?”  As mentioned before, I want our wedding to have a real homey feel and I can’t think of a better way to do this then to have the celebration in our own backyard (literally!). And so the Madness Begins…

WBJan09_mai-and-bojanWhat an exciting year 2010 will be!  Not only will I be marrying the greatest man I’ve ever known but I will also be buying my first home and making a career change—all this while somehow managing to raise two fantastic boys.

Bojan and I started dating in our final year of high school after meeting through mutual friends.  He is incredible in every sense of the word:  generous, witty, intelligent, kind—everything I could possibly ask for in a best friend and husband.  I always knew he would be a great father and he’s shown me that he can be that and much more.  Watching him interact with Ivan and Nicolas is absolutely beautiful. Cultural Fusion

BelindaMy name is Belinda Allen. I’m 28-years-old and am getting married on August 28, 2010. My fiancé Hemant and I are planning a small wedding (50 guests). We are having the wedding and reception at a historic bed and breakfast in Saint John, New Brunswick. We’re having a simple ceremony, incorporating some of his East Indian heritage, and then a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception. Read the rest of this entry »

Garden Party

MaiBojan and I are not your typical married couple-to-be.  We started dating in 2001 and five years later, introduced a lovely little boy, Ivan, into the world.  Just recently, we added Nicolas to our growing family.  Although we have done things unconventionally, the decision to finally get married makes perfect sense for us now, as our relationship is the strongest it has ever been. Party of Four

wbaug09_tim2_400x300

Every now and then I come across a wedding that’s super-intimate, as in a guest list with less than 10 people (include the bride and groom). But, I think it’s always so nice to see that weddings can be fun and romantic–no matter how big or small the wedding is. I spotted this really cute and quirky wedding off of Tim Chin’s blog. I had the pleasure of working with him awhile back, when we featured one of his weddings in our Montreal edition. His style is pretty laid-back and he definitely knows how to capture those great moments. This wedding that he shot, was of a couple from out of town who exchanged ‘I Dos’ with only two other people. They’re not from Montreal, but according to Tim, the couple has always had a fondness for the city. The last shot, especially, is my fave! Nothing says Montreal like a plate of good ol’ poutine. See more photos after the jump.

Keeping It Simple

wbjuly09_orchid-bouquetSometimes the sweetest weddings are the small, intimate ones. If you are planning a simple ceremony, with a laid-back party to accompany it, it makes total sense to keep the flowers simple too.  Many brides who are planning on uncomplicated weddings seem to consider roses as the best bang for your buck, but another excellent option is orchids. They are not necessarily more money, yet exude expensive taste! Read the rest of this entry »

Spritz On

This may sound like an odd idea, but when you really think about it, don’t you think a reception should not only look good but smell good too? Read the rest of this entry »
