If you’re looking to add an element of whimsy to your wedding forgo traditional floral arrangements and centrepieces and opt for balloon bouquets in your wedding colours. Use coloured balloons in place of bridal party bouquets and adorn each table with a unique bunch of balloons for a budget-friendly floral alternative. For playful photo-ops, include balloons in your engagement and post-ceremony photo shoots or have guests release balloons as you come out of your ceremony venue. If your reception venue lacks ceiling decor, let elegant balloons float up and have the strings hang down for a light and airy environment.

What to Do After You Say “Yes”
Congratulations, you’re engaged! As the excitement of your proposal fades, you might find yourself asking, “Now what?,” but there’s no need to fret. Take a deep breath, enjoy this moment—and then tackle this helpful to-do list!
1. SPREAD THE WORD. That’s where this adorable penguin postcard comes in! Sharing your happy news is one of the best parts of getting engaged. You’ll want to tell your nearest and dearest (parents, siblings) in person or over the phone, but a postcard like this can be a great way to spread news of your engagement to your wider circle of friends and acquaintances. And let’s not forget about social media: change your status on Facebook and start Tweeting all the romantic details of your proposal!
2. BOOK AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION. By no means is a pre-wedding photography session mandatory, however, it’s a lot of fun, it gives you a chance to get to know your photographer AND you’ll end up with a great reminder of this special time in your lives. In fact, you could use your engagement photos to make an official announcement card (not that we don’t love these penguins!).
3. SET THE DATE. Picking a day will make it a lot easier to find a venue. Just remember not to be too rigid—the more flexible you are, the more likely you are to find your dream space (and hopefully save some money, too). Fridays and Sundays tend to be less expensive than Saturdays, for example, and Winter is generally less expensive than Summer.
4. START A GIFT REGISTRY. It’s important to tackle your gift registry early because many of your loved ones may want to buy you presents to celebrate your engagement (especially if you’re planning a party, see below!). As a general rule of thumb, pick two or three different stores, and include items at different price points on your list.
5. PLAN A PARTY. Your engagement party doesn’t have to be extravagant, but it is nice to get all your friends and family together in one place to celebrate. A casual brunch or backyard barbecue could be the perfect way to mark this moment.
What was the first thing you did after slipping on your engagement ring? We’d love to hear your story!

Day 31: Royal Mail to Release Commemorative Stamps
As of today we are officially one month away from the Royal Wedding, and the anticipation surrounding this historical event is at a fever pitch! We’re happy to have you following along with us as we count down, and we’ll continue to be your source for all things William and Kate up to their big day and beyond. Speaking of the handsome couple, check out these nifty stamps! Featuring Mario Testino’s engagement portraits of William and Kate, these stamps will be released by the Royal Mail on April 21st (coincidentally—or not—this is Queen Elizabeth’s birthday.). William is the first of the Queen’s grandchildren to have his marriage commemorated in this fashion, and it, therefore, marks the beginning of a new royal tradition. Want to try this at home? You can order your own personalized stamps from Canada Post: simply upload your favourite picture of you and your mister, and you’re in business—save-the-date cards will never be the same!

Prince William and Kate Middleton Engagement Pictures
They’re here! Last week it was confirmed that Kate and her prince posed for a lovely engagement portrait session with celebrated fashion photographer Mario Testino, and over the weekend the beautiful portraits were officially released to the public.
Showing both their relaxed and glamourous sides, the royal couple released two different photos. The formal photo was shot at the historic Council Chamber, which is linked to Clarence House, Prince Charles’ official residence, while the casual portrait was captured in the Cornwall Room of St. James’s Palace.
Kate, a royal style icon in the making did her own makeup for the photos, with Testino’s makeup artist on hand for touchups. The bride-to-be wore a white Reiss dress and Links earrings for the formal shot and opted for a cream-coloured Whistles blouse for the dressed-down portrait. Read the rest of this entry »

Kate and William Have Engagement Portraits!
It was over a decade ago in 1997 that famed fashion photographer Mario Testino took some of the most memorable candid pictures of Princess Diana for Vanity Fair. Now, in the wake of Kate and William’s royal engagement, Miss Middleton has already sat for her first official photo shoot!
It was confirmed to People magazine that Testino has taken “some engagement photographs” of the happy couple, which is quite fitting considering the photographer has shot many celebrities and royals as well. Read the rest of this entry »

Pink Elephants, Oh My!
Many of the other bloggers have expressed the importance of finding a photographer that will not only fit your budget and style, but will also deliver stunning photographs that you can enjoy for many years to come. Pink Elephant Photography and Design not only delivers the style we were looking for, they are also friends of the family. Casey and Jojo (yes, just like one of my favourite R&B groups) are a husband and wife team whose unique style caught our eye. Not only do they take great photographs, their artistic use of photo-manipulation was what sold us on these two.
I knew right from the day we were engaged where I wanted to take our engagement photos: at my work! Okay, as lame as that sounds, the building I work in is a state of the art, eco-friendly building that’s won many design and ‘green’ awards all over the world. Mark thought I was crazy but after seeing the building, he agreed. Manitoba Hydro Place is Manitoba Hydro’s brand new building in downtown Winnipeg. This building uses the latest technologies in sustainable energy which makes it not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing in a minimalistic/simplistic style which is very much “us.” Read the rest of this entry »
