Douglas Hannant started with traditional silhouettes and built upon them, playing with fabric and texture to take the bridal gown in a completely new direction. Gowns were adorned with shimmering sequins, bursts of ruffles, billowing sleeves and playful tiers. The stand-out piece for us was this unique embellished sheath with corset bodice.

Our hats go off to Douglas Hannant’s Fall 2011 bridal collection for designing, yet again, another beautiful collection. All his gowns, which typically air on the edgier side of bridal fashion, carry various personalities. From a sleek suit to a short and sweet frock to a billowy ball gown, you’re sure to find a dress from Hannant’s latest designs that’s fitting to your style. Personally, I love this gown (pictured above), which is quite dreamy–but thanks to the bow–also super-cute.

It’s been a hectic week for us–we’re in the midst of finishing the magazine and tracking down all the gorgeous runway photos from bridal fashion week in New York last weekend. Amongst all the gowns this one (above) from Douglas Hannant caught my eye. It looks so romantic, even if it is a bit more on the simpler side, but dressed with a pretty accessory (maybe a chunky necklace) any bride would look stunning. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this dress, do you think it’s too plain or just perfect?

It’s high season here at Weddingbells, and I’m busy putting the finishing touches on my runway report for our next issue (on newsstands in July), which got me thinking about all the trends I didn’t have room to include! One such trend is pearls.

Pearl Detail

Several bridal designers adorned dresses with pearls instead of crystals. This form of embellishment feels fresh and modern, and I love the subtle effect pearls create. Sometimes you have to get right up close to truly appreciate all that elegant detailing! And, for those of you who have already chosen your gown, consider incorporating pearls in another way. Multiple strands in different lengths are a fabulous way to take a simple dress to the next level. I say, pile ’em on, oh, and don’t worry if they’re faux!
