Lollipop Lollipop

I love hearing did you know facts. Because more than half the time, I don’t know. Yesterday I saw a fascinating tweet from foodimentary who tweeted:

Did you know that the lollipop was first patented in 1931? The name came from a famous race horse at the time, Lolly Pop.

I don’t know about you, but I found that fact so exciting. Inspired by my new found knowledge, I went on the hunt for the perfect lollipop wedding favour. Instead, I ended up getting sidetracked by Bakerella’s latest creation–ice cream cone cake pops, which I think are just as “cool” and amazing as lollipops. Yum!

Cupcakes With Zing

Could alcoholic cupcakes (aka cocktail cupcakes) be the next best thing? I learned about this new trend from Nicole, who tasted her first Guinness cupcake ever at an event last week. Intrigued by the idea, I went on the hunt to see what other alcohol-infused cupcakes were out there and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there’s, well, A LOT! From what I hear, they taste amazing–you can barely taste the alcohol at all. One enticing recipe that I found comes from Hostess Blog who posted this neat Mint Julep Cupcake Recipe. Apparently, this wonderful treat has all the makings of a fine Mint Julep drink in the form of a mini-cake. Looks refreshing! Wonder if there’s a Pina Colada cupcake recipe floating out there somewhere…

Current Obsession: Pillow Cookies

If only I could grab these chocolate chip cookies off my screen and gobble them all up, I totally would. Now, I’ve never heard of pillow cookies before, but ever since I read about these ones, made by Bakerella, I’ve been OBSESSED. Pillow cookies are basically your typical cookie wrapped around a brownie centre. So they look like your average cookie, but one bite out of them and I bet you could taste the instant chocolate gooeyness. YUM! Want the recipe? Click here.

Just looking at all this delicious food–croissants, cookies, cotton candy, etc.–is making my mouth water. Love the dreamy and inviting presentation of everything. Big thanks goes out to Maddy K Food by Nicolina Servello for such an inspiring and gorgeous set-up. In case you’re unaware, Maddy K Food is a catering division of Maddy K (an event design group) who specializes in beautiful creatives such as this one.

Fun Dessert Tables

You know what your bridal shower or wedding needs? A fun dessert table like this gorgeous one from Shauna Younge Dessert Tables. I love her style–it’s fresh and simple. The pink set-up was done with a preppy-chic design in mind while the lavender creation simply oozes elegance and charm. Click through the little thumbnails below to see close-ups of all the fun treats! Enjoy.

strawberry shortcake alternative

This is such a marvelous idea for those of you that LOVE strawberry shortcake (the cake not the character!). Spotted from Eat Drink Chic–the bride opted to serve fresh strawberries, warm scones, jam and cream in lieu of a traditional cake. Yummy.

The Rise of the French Macaron

Yesterday The Toronto Star published a great article on Toronto’s trendiest cookie in town–the French macaron. Indeed it has been trendy, but not for many Parisians as it is their quintessential French sweet. If you ever head to Paris, I’m told Laduree is macaron mecca. Read the rest of this entry »
