Each year the experts at Pantone forecast colour trends and deem one shade the most important. 2012′s future is bright with an orange/red/coral mix called Tangerine Tango taking top honours. The editors at FASHION have put together their top beauty picks in this bright shade from lipsticks to nail lacquers — they’ll be the perfect pop of colour to complement your white wedding dress.

Heart-Throbbing Colour
{All photography courtesy Michael Moore Photography}
Hues, tones, textures… they can say so much. When my long time childhood friend, talent artist, graphic designer, and in my humble opinion colour expert, asked me to do her flowers, I admit I was stressed!! She had a vision of specific autumn colours accented with warm notes of eggshell blue, mixed throughout layers of petals. After searching through magazines for inspiration, pouring over pantone colours, and choosing the perfect ribbons, this is what we came up with. Enjoy, I hope these pictures inspire you to come up with your own unique colour palette. (More photos after the jump) Read the rest of this entry »

Would you wear…red?
A couple of days ago Alison passed along an interesting article about South Asian bridal fashion, and it got me thinking a lot about colours and the role they play in wedding traditions. Apparently some South Asian brides are now choosing to wear ensembles in white or ivory that more closely reflect Western wedding garb, but bright shades of red, pink and orange (which are traditional to this culture) still dominate. Furthermore, Chinese brides often wear red, as it symbolizes good luck and is thought to ward off evil spirits. Cultural significance aside, it seems that more and more brides are simply choosing to wear colours other than white for the big day. Read the rest of this entry »

Colour Query

Pretty in pink; Love by Enzoani.
As you can imagine, we get lots of reader questions here at Weddingbells, and we try our best to answer them. In fact, there’s nothing we love more than helping you track down your dream dress or the perfect pair of shoes. I recently received an interesting fashion query from Ann, so I’d like to dedicate this post to her! Ann’s daughter is getting married in August, and they’re having a devil of a time deciding on a colour for the bridesmaids’ dresses. Read the rest of this entry »

Colour Your World
Today, I decided to have a bit of a blog-a-thon. There’s so much to be said and, since I have a few minutes to spare, I thought it wise to post as many possible ideas as I could today to leave you inspired for the week–it’s going to be a busy next few weeks for me, so I might not be able to update as often (remember that huge cakes and flowers shoot I have coming up? I’m running around like crazy for that). But I shall try. Anywho, this time I thought I’d take the time to showcase some of the AWESOME colour inspiration slideshows that we shot last year. They’re all over our website, but in case you haven’t seen them here’s a glimpse of the shots and direct link to where you can find them.

Real Wedding: Colourful Celebration!

Wow! I haven’t seen such a bright and inspiring celebration like this Cambodian wedding that Davina + Daniel shot a few weeks back. Everything from the clothes (she wore two dresses!), to the colours, oh the colours, were simply breathtaking. And, according to Davina, their reception was just as lively as their decor, with entertainment being provided by lion dancers and cirque du soleil performers. How exciting! See below how Molina and Bernie celebrated their day with such pizazz.

Respect the Flower!
I’m certainly accustomed to hearing “please do not use, carnations, gladiolus, mums, and leather fern!” But I have learned that every flower has its purpose, and if designed right, is magnificent. Read the rest of this entry »
