What is a Theme?

Some couples have a specific theme for their wedding—a time period like Art Deco, a flower like the Cherry Blossom, or a season like fall. In this case the venue, invitations, decor, flowers and attire generally fit with the theme, however, a theme doesn’t have to be this specific. Many people come in for our first meeting saying they don’t have a theme and I tell them they do—they just don’t realize it yet. Read the rest of this entry »

Respect the Flower!

WBOct09_Glad-CloseI’m certainly accustomed to hearing “please do not use, carnations, gladiolus, mums, and leather fern!” But I have learned that every flower has its purpose, and if designed right, is magnificent. Read the rest of this entry »

Colour Combo: Turquoise & Red

wbsep09_favor_500x350

Turquoise alone and red alone are great shades. But, fused together? These two definitely make for a dynamic duo. There’s just something about turquoise and red that’s makes everything look fun and whimsical. I actually found my inspiration from Telliegrams’ blog. Read the rest of this entry »

Very Vera

wbaug09_vera1_22x375

Most mornings as soon as I log into work I’m inundated with a gazillion e-mails. Okay, maybe inundated is the wrong word choice, as I actually do enjoy sifting through them–sans the fact that it takes up my whole morning. Of those half are e-newsletters that I’ve subscribed to over the past few years, and for some reason just don’t have the heart to unsubscribe (or I’m too lazy to click the unsubscribe button–I know it’s a bad habit). However, one e-mail that I do look forward to reading is Vera Wang‘s e-newsletter. Read the rest of this entry »

Celebrity Florist

wbaug09_saundra_parks

Event planner and floral designer of New York City-based floral design company, The Daily Blossom, Saundra Parks is a renowned style-maker and has worked for some of the biggest names out there including Oprah, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, and Barbara Walters. Having created lavish V.I.P. hip hop events to intimate celebrity parties and even special home deliveries, Parks knows what works and what doesn’t. Recently I had the chance to ask her to give us her top tips for selecting florals for your big day.

1. Pick a Color. Select one or two vibrant colors and build your wedding around it, including flowers, decor, dresses, etc. Splashes of bright bold colors like hot pink, lime green and orange are “hot” and modern—and they’ll give your special day visual appeal. Read the rest of this entry »

Purple 101

The most logical thing to do when working with colour is to try and match colours perfectly. For example, tie in the exact hue of the girls violet dresses into the flowers, dresses, invitations, and linens. However, it will become apparent very quickly that your dressmakers “violet” is very different then your stationers “violet”! The easy solution to this problem is to widen your theme to the base colour itself—in this case, purple. Read the rest of this entry »

Inspiring Invitations

One of my all-time fave stationery companies Baron Cards just released their latest collection for 2009! I was so inspired by their newest creations that I immediately asked Lianne from Baron Cards to e-mail her designs over so that I could share with you all. I love their creative board displays, which showcases how they incorporated different elements (colour swatches, fabrics and photos) together to create one gorgeous invite. Thanks Lianne for these inspiring invitation boards. Ooh, and did I mention that they’re all eco-friendly?
