What a fun weekend to have a marriage celebration! You may not want your guests wearing costumes, but there is subtle ways to celebrate this holiday, while keeping your wedding an elegant event. Pumpkin centrepieces are always a hit! I might even say Cool, Green & Shady has a bit of a reputation for how cute we make them! Go one step beyond and put a gourd on every napkin… bob for apples to allow the bride and groom to kiss… a candy bar with a Halloween feel… It really is too much fun! Your guests will love it, and I’m sure will remember it with fond memories for years to come.

Express Yourself

A wedding is a snapshot of a couple for all their guests to see. Their taste, likes, loves is all captured in a wonderful celebration. Don’t be afraid to show your guests who you are! A recent bride reminded me of how important this is.
Lauren and David had a large, high style affair held at Copper Creek Golf Club. Yet, everything about the wedding was planned with an earthy, warm-hearted style that was a perfect fit for this beautiful couple.
Lauren’s bouquet of calla lilies helped capture her sophisticated personality, while the rest of the decor was designed to show the couples love for organic things.

Final Details
Wow! The last post! I feel like I’ve barely shared all of my ideas with you and now I have but 500 very valuable words left to fill you in on the rest of the details. Here’s how we’ve put our own personal twist (keeping in mind the 3R’s-reduce, reuse, recycle) on some wedding essentials:
1. Website–First, of all, thanks for all of your suggestions! We decided to go with mywedding.com for our wedding website. It IS really easy to use! Check it out: www.mywedding.com/carrieandgergely.
2. Party Favours–Like we’ve mentioned before, instead of party favours, we’re putting that money into sponsoring a child through Compassion Canada. Since I spent a summer volunteering in Tanzania, we’ve decided to sponsor a little girl from there. On each plate, we’re placing a teabag (Tanzanian rooibos), wrapped in a small envelope with our sponsored child’s picture and a blurb about Compassion Canada.
3. Guestbook–Instead of the traditional guestbook, we’re making a picture wall of black and white photos of us with every guest at the wedding that will be clipped to strings hung from the ceiling. This will serve as the backdrop in front of which our guests will write a message on a whiteboard and take a picture of themselves using our Mac’s “Photobooth” application and remote. Hello Harvest Table
Long rectangle tables are a hot new trend. They are a perfect fit for a modern venue, sleek and streamlined. If you are planning on having rectangle tables, multiple centrepieces are a must.
Now, I know what you are thinking… multiple arrangements mean more money, which could quickly blow the budget! But my point of this blog post is to show you, it doesn’t have to. Look at how beautiful even a simple ceramic cube with two dahlias, a bit of waxflower, and moss is. It does not take much at all! Have fun and think inside the rectangle.

The Recessionista Bride’s DIY Guide
It’s a pretty safe bet to say that we’re far from having the biggest wedding budget in the world. So when times are tight, what better way to save money (and have far too much fun!) than to attempt many brides’ favourite thing: DIY projects! I know I’ve been talking about my über-nerdy cake toppers for a while, but they’re not the only thing we’re doing ourselves. We’re also making our invitations, and centrepieces too. So without further ado, I bring you my DIY Guide for the Recessionista Bride! Read the rest of this entry »

Flowerless Centrepieces
{Andrea Dozier Photography}
Spring has definitely sprung here in Toronto! And while the warm weather has many brides flocking to their florists for gorgeous flowers in season—some brides just aren’t flower people. I mentioned in last week’s post that opting for flowerless centrepieces can mean serious savings budget-wise for your wedding. So this week I thought I’d feature a few ideas you could easily copy and adapt for any style wedding. Enjoy!

Going to the Chapel and We’re Gonna Get Married
{Proof that we were destined to be married.}
*We’re not really getting married in a chapel; I just really like that song. I was actually singing it after we met with the priest…hehe*
It was important for both me and Mark to be wed in a church so what better a church than the one that plays a big part in both of our lives? St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church is not only the church that my family has been attending masses at all my life, but it is also where Mark attended elementary school. Can you believe that Mark and I actually had our first communion’s together and had no clue? It’s true! A few years ago, I was flipping through Mark’s childhood photo albums and when I got to the photos of his first communion, there was something strangely familiar with the photo. I visually scanned the photo and sure enough, I found my young self in the very same picture! Many years since that photo, Mark will once again be in a white tuxedo and I will once again be in a white dress and veil; walking down the very aisle that has been the central point of my day dreams since I was a little girl.
