My Hydrangea Addiction

Photography courtesy Michelle Quance Photography.

I totally love hydrangea! I think I may have mentioned this before, but its lush, full, spectacular blooms put a huge smile on my face. I love to design with it in every aspect of a wedding, right down to the bouquets! Yes, bouquets!!! If you keep the hydrangea in water right up until you start pictures, it will live four to five hours out of water from that point—which is the perfect amount of time for a wedding ceremony and amazing photos to occur. If you want to keep it perky past that time frame just throw it in a vase of water in a focal location (ie. head table) and that will help it stay strong for the remainder of the evening.

Black Is So Sexy

Bridesmaids in black dresses, a black sash on a stunning white wedding gown, black vases, black napkins, and even a black calla lily bouquet—no colour just black & white—timeless, stunning, and yes… sexy.

Classic Graydon Hall was the back drop for this formal wedding.  A clear fall day allowed the ceremony to take place in the back garden, with cocktails around the fountain, dinner on the picturesque veranda—tented in a ballroom setting, with evening dancing inside the manor. Summer Sedum

Sedum is an amazing flower that changes colour as the season progresses. It starts to become available in early August in a fresh green colour.  As the season progress it changes to a soft pink, then a rosy pink, and then rapidly darkens to a burgundy. The season typically finishes right after Thanksgiving. Read the rest of this entry »

Terrific Terrariums

{image via a cup of jo}

It wasn’t until I brought a terrarium home for my mom (courtesy of a video shoot that we filmed earlier this year) that I became fascinated with them. I think they would make the most perfect centrepieces–especially if you’re having a garden/vintage themed wedding. Or, for a more creative approach, I’m loving this awesome idea, via ruffled, where the bridal party created miniature terrariums (made completely out of light bulbs) for place cards.

A Casual Affair

When longtime customer, turned friend, emailed me late July to say that he and his girlfriend had decided to get married August 21st, it was a welcomed surprise!  We had a little over three weeks to transform their beautiful beach cottage, just three homes up from the famous beach boardwalk, and their two neighbour’s yards, into a celebration haven.

Nature lovers at heart, they wanted a casual garden party to adorn their union. The only decor specification that I was given was that there was to be lots of birch poles, making the entrances of the tents feel like a forest. All other design elements I could do what I pleased — how much fun is that!! Read the rest of this entry »

Current Obsession: Beeswax Candles

Bees may not be my favourite insects, but I do love them for their honeycomb-inspired patterns and the natural goodness that they provide for beeswax candles. I’m a huge fan of Big Dipper Wax Works for two reasons a) their commitment to being an eco-friendly and sustainable company (i.e. all their wicks are 100% cotton, etc.) and b) for all their pretty elements. Awesome Agapanthus

Is blue your colour theme? Agapanthus is a fun and unique flower with a warm blue hue. It’s funnel-shaped florets create a firework cluster giving arrangements texture. To help show off their splendor, in this particular wedding, I designed them with import blue hydrangea and creamy Vandella roses. Read the rest of this entry »

The CG&S McDreamy

As I’m sure you all know by now, I love, love, love whites and creams. I would even say this event could easily be our CG&S Signature wedding.

White hydrangea, lisianthus and creamy Vandella roses in a low, lush mounded design, accentuated in an exquisite footed bowl with matching hurricanes surrounding the centrepiece to boot! Read the rest of this entry »
