Summer Sedum

Sedum is an amazing flower that changes colour as the season progresses. It starts to become available in early August in a fresh green colour.  As the season progress it changes to a soft pink, then a rosy pink, and then rapidly darkens to a burgundy. The season typically finishes right after Thanksgiving. Read the rest of this entry »

Quintessential Rose

I love this time of year! Here are more photos that a wonderful bride just sent to me, to add to our portfolio, and more importantly to blog and share with all of you!

This wedding was on June 11th, at the beautiful Eaton Hall. A distinguished wedding in every detail—the floral’s were designed to mimic the classic nature of the estate. Read the rest of this entry »

The “Manly” Bout

Is your man not particularly keen on a fantastic floral boutonnière? He is not alone! Here are a couple of options that will encourage him from not only wearing a pocket square on your special day.

The man’s man seems to love the idea of being different, and being different means greens only… with maybe a couple of berries! This sounds boring, but in actual fact can be stunning.  Proof is in the snappy collection [side picture] of snakegrass, beargrass, pittosporum, hypericum, and salal. Wedding Season is Back!

Photography courtesy HRM Photography.

There is no better way to kick off the beginning of wedding season, than doing flowers for a friend. Lindsay, from HRM Photography, was married on April 17th. What made this so fun, is a couple of years ago when my husband and I married, Lindsay and I traded services. She would be our photographer, and I her florist, a loyal wedding vendor pact. I was so excited when their date was set!

Now the problem with seeing as many weddings as Lindsay and I do, is it is really, really hard to choose what you want for your own wedding! But in the end I think Lindsay could not have planned a more perfect celebration for her and her husband. Read the rest of this entry »

Latest Obsession: Herbal Boutonnieres

flower

Yesterday on set, Jenn from Flour Studio came in with this really amazing floral item–herbal boutonnieres. Originally, I had planned to keep mum on this cool creation until my next flower video comes out–but it was such an awesome idea that I had to share. Long story short, Jenn mentioned that the idea of incorporating rosemary, thyme, mint, chamomile and other herbs came about, when one groom (who happens to be a chef) requested to have as many food elements incorporated into his day as possible. And, voila, that’s how this unique twist to boutonnieres was born. Would you do this for your own celebration? Anyone care to share what they’re doing for their boutonnieres? I’d love to hear!

The Famous Calla Lily

A stately flower that makes a huge impact all on it’s own—in a stunning brides bouquet, a tall magnificent centrepiece, a single bloom boutonnière.

Callas are grown here in Canada, as well as overseas. There can be a significant difference between their appearance depending on where they are from, so if you love callas, I would suggest keeping the following in mind. Read the rest of this entry »

Button Holes

Allow the men’s WBSept09_Blushing-Brideflowers to flow with the theme of your wedding.

The groom’s boutonniere should be very similar to the brides bouquets, so all the pictures of the newlyweds coordinate. Likewise, the groom’s wedding party should match the bride’s wedding party and so on. Read the rest of this entry »
