Everything You Need to Know About Hydrangeas

This morning the Internet is all abuzz with the news that Madonna hates hydrangeas. Madge was given a bouquet of hydrangeas by a fan at the Venice Film Festival, and her microphone picked up the following quote: “I absolutely loathe hydrangeas.” For the record, we agree to disagree with the Material Girl on the subject: hydrangeas are perfectly pretty flowers that can be a great addition to your wedding decor. Here’s four reasons to love hydrangeas:

1. THEY’RE AFFORDABLE.

Not only are hydrangea blossoms beautiful, they’re also extremely voluminous, which means you don’t need many flowers to fill up your bouquet or centrepiece.

2. THEY’RE COLOURFUL.

Hydrangeas don’t just come in blue. They’re also available in white, green, pink and lavender, so it’s easy to find a colour that works with your decorating scheme.

3.THEY’RE MEANINGFUL.

Among other things, hydrangeas are meant to symbolize devotion. How perfect is that for your bridal bouquet?

4. THEY’RE VERSATILE.

Hydrangeas look great on their own (a big bunch in a low vase makes a nice centrepiece), but they also look lovely mixed with other flowers (see above).

Where do you stand on the hydrangea debate? Love them or hate them?

Wedding Do: Pick Your Posies

Flowers can really enhance the look of your celebration, so it’s important to consider what type of blooms you will use and how they will be arranged. You may already have a favourite flower that you’d like to incorporate. Colour is also an important consideration, as you likely have decided on a decorating scheme by now. Another thing to keep in mind is when certain flowers are in season: blossoms that aren’t available locally will have to be imported, and the cost may be prohibitive. Also, you may not know that flowers often have meanings attached to them. For instance, irises (pictured left) symbolize hope and passion. Want more insider info? Dreaming of Summer

I feel like this snowy winter day calls for a floral eye candy blog post! Fest your eyes on this pretty wedding we designed last August, let the soft hues warm you. Each bridesmaid’s bouquet was a unique cluster of summer blooms, and the brides was a mix of all the girls bouquets together. Each of the guys bouts co-ordinated with the girls bouquets, which was soooo cute!! The centrepieces were large, organic, full of greens, and designed with seasonal Canadian garden flowers. (More photos after the jump). Read the rest of this entry »
