Our Wedding, in a Virtual Scrapbook!

I had been looking for a way to get the information about our wedding out to our guests, and also get both sides of the family to know each other a little better before the wedding. Joseph and I thought a great way to do that would be with a wedding website that shares information about ourselves and about our families.

This way, even guests that were out of town, or that we hadn’t seen in a while could feel closer to us and the events leading up to the big day.

The DIY Birdcage Veil Experiment

Ok, so I called this post the The DIY Birdcage Veil Experiment because I wasn’t really sure I could pull this off from the get-go. Before you read on, I will happily report that the experiment was a success, thanks in no small part to the multitude of DIY websites and forum posts that I found on the subject. I tried a few of these out (like this one from oncewed.com and this one from bridalguide.com) but in the end came up with my own simplified version of this project by Made by Amy, which I have laid out step by step for you here. As you can see, the supplies and steps in this project are minimal. I trimmed down the one by Amy because, well, with all the millions of things to plan for the wedding I figured the easier, the better! The Meaning of Marriage

I Need Shoes!

There are only 50 days left until the big day and I’m ready to knock one more task off of the “to do” list.

My dress is supposed to arrive in February and I know it’s important to bring your wedding shoes to the dress fitting. This means I have to go get shoes! I have never been a shoe person. I always thought I would just wear running shoes under my wedding dress and go for comfort. My mom has convinced me that I could use a little bit of extra height though. I love flowers. This is why it was a bit sad to have to give up the beautiful orchids flown in from Singapore, and the fleshy tulips from Holland, because of course, it wouldn’t be environmentally friendly to have to ship in my flowers across multiple oceans.

Bridal Makeup Tutorial

In the early stages of wedding planning I made a decision on something that seemed outrageous to some: I’ve decided to do my own wedding day makeup. How can I possibly have the courage to endeavour such a huge task? Simple: I enjoy and am actually obsessed with makeup application and products. This is kind of ironic and I’ll tell you why. Growing up in a predominately male family (two brothers and many male cousins), I was the girl that wore ripped jeans, T-shirts and runners and could be found chasing after my older brother: climbing trees, playing sports on the street and being the dummy for him to practice his wrestling moves on. Who would’ve thought that I would grow up loving anything remotely girly? You also couldn’t tell from looking at me that I enjoy playing with makeup since I run out of the house most days wearing glasses and not even a smidge of foundation. I’m not sure when I first became interested in makeup but I do know when it turned into an obsession—the year my BFFs gave me a M.A.C. gift card for my 20-something birthday. Dress to Impress

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m at the five-month mark now, and I’m starting to get a little nervous. I feel like I still have so much to do! Especially with our house being built, there are so many decisions to make!

My task with my bridesmaids and maid of honour this month was to get those bridesmaids dresses found and off the to-do list. Well, we’re already nearing the end of February and we didn’t make much progress so far. We originally planned for the first week of February, but my maid of honour got a job offer 13 hours away, with a week’s notice to move out there!
