How they met: “We met when Mannix took my call as a police officer, with the Ottawa Police, to help one of my family members,” explains Valérie. “He’s definitely my hero.”

Engagement story: “Since Mannix’s background is Portuguese, I had been looking forward to traveling to Portugal ever since we met,” Valérie recalls. “We went in September 2011, and Mannix proposed on a beach in the Algarves. It was a beach that, to our surprise, turned out to be an unofficial nudist beach! We celebrated by having a picnic and drinking a bottle of wine.”
