How they met: “We met at the University of Ottawa in our first year English class,” explains Katie. “After working together in groups on a couple of class activities Sigmund slipped me a piece of paper at the end of class one day with his email address on it. We had chatted about how he was on the school’s football team, and that I came from years of dance experience. When he handed me the paper he asked me to email him so that he could convince me to join the football team’s dance group.”

Engagement story: “Over the next six years we came to realize, that not only were we each others’ best friend, we were also the love of each others’ life and so we decided to purchase our first home together, a cozy condo in Kanata,” Katie recalls. “I have always been fascinated by antique jewelry, especially jewelry that has been passed down from generations. Sigmund and I had talked about styles of rings, and I had shown him the antique looking style I liked. When Sigmund’s mom showed him her mother’s diamond ring he knew right away it was meant to be my ring. He quickly rushed home with the ring in his pocket and got down on one knee as soon as he walked in the door! Sigmund was quite close with his grandmother and was so excited to pass on her ring to me.”
