An Elegant Wedding in Markham, Ontario
About the couple
Bride: Michelle Jacobson
Groom: Dean Rabie
How they met: “We met on a trip to Israel from Toronto the summer when we were 18. I remember being at the airport and being introduced by our mutual friend and thinking, ‘he’s pretty cute.’ We became friendly then and were both going to the same university in the fall. That’s when one thing led to another, but I knew he liked me on my 19th birthday when he chauffeured seven of my friends around and then looked after me when I had overindulged,” says Michelle.
Engagement story: “Dean really wanted to surprise me, but I am super type A and a total control freak. He was studying abroad at the time, and we had a trip to Paris and Morocco planned. Two days before I left to meet him I went to his parents’ house to pick up some stuff they wanted to send him. They ended up giving me a package that, unbeknownst to me, contained a ring I had pointed out before. I carried my ring to Dean without knowing and, after three romantic days in Paris, he proposed to me on a bridge outside Notre Dame over the Seine. He played a song called ‘The Book of Love’ and changed the last words to ask if I would accept his wedding ring,” recalls Michelle.
