An All-Things-Green Wedding In Huron, Ontario
About the couple
Bride: Karin Hewitt
Groom: Alex Hewitt
How they met: “We met through a mutual friend at a birthday party in Bloor West Village in Toronto,” explains Karin. “We quickly realized that our paths probably should have crossed a hundred times earlier given all of our family and friend connections, the biggest of which being that Alex’s mother Sharon had been one of my high school teachers.”
Engagement story: “We were on vacation at the Alisal Guest Ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley and had spent the morning hiking and then out on a private horseback ride,” Karin recalls. “As we came back to the ranch we had about 20 minutes before we were going to head out on a group ride and I suggested we go and grab a drink. Alex, however, said he wanted to go over near one of the paddocks instead. As we stood there, overlooking the mountains and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, he began to say some very heartfelt things. Being completely oblivious to the situation, I thought he was just being sweet at the time. As he continued to talk, I turned to look at him and out of the corner of my eye I could see him going down on one knee. I absolutely lost it and started repeating, ‘oh my God, no you’re not!’ He told me how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and asked me to be his wife, and I immediately dropped to my knees with him and the tears started to flow. I honestly didn’t even see the ring on my finger until about five minutes later when the sun hit it and I was temporarily blinded. Alex had to remind me that I hadn’t yet answered his question. Of course I jumped at the chance to say ‘yes’. He had managed to pull off the most perfect proposal.”
