How they met: “We met through friends of my brother at a local bar one summer night,” explains Susan.

Engagement story: “Around the time of our engagement I had a slight addiction to online shopping, especially for fashion jewellery, so it was not uncommon for me to receive a parcel or three on any given day,” Susan recalls. “On May 10, 2011, John came home from work and I had been downstairs in the basement doing laundry. I came upstairs in my ratty shorts and a t-shirt to find a small cardboard box on the counter. I asked him where it had come from because I had already checked the mailbox earlier in the day and his quick response was that it was stuck in the mailbox. Thinking nothing of it I checked out the box and the packing label stated it was a ring from Thailand, which I had ordered a couple of weeks prior. I started to open the box, still not thinking anything of it until I opened the wooden box to find my perfect cushion cut ring. I turned around and John was on one knee on the kitchen floor. Without me knowing the actual ring that I purchased from Thailand arrived a week prior and John had taken that box and repacked it with my diamond ring. It was pretty clever I think.”
