About the couple

Bride: Sarah Newell

Groom: Jamie Wingrowich

How they met: “When we met in high school, Jamie told his friend that I was the most beautiful girl he knew, which made me look at him in a way I never had before,” recalls Sarah. “We began dating while I was in university. We dated long distance for two years then moved in together when I graduated, and returned to Calgary. We had our son Grey in 2010.”

Engagement story: “Jamie had always envisioned proposing to me in a special mountain location but since I was pregnant he didn’t want me hiking to his envisioned spot,” Sarah explains. “He wanted to throw me off because we had been talking about getting married for years and I knew the proposal was on its way. He placed my ring on a sparkly dog collar and put it around our dog’s neck. He put the dog on the bed to wake me up one morning. I was very out of it and confused. Jamie put the ring on my finger and cried his way through the words he wrote on a card.”
