About the couple
Bride: Lindsay Elder
Groom: Ryan Ward
How they met: “I first spotted Ryan back in elementary school when I was in grade six and Ryan was in grade seven,” explains Lindsay. “But of course, at that time, Ryan had no idea who I was! It wasn’t until many years later when I spotted Ryan again, this time at Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club where we both worked. For most of this time, we worked opposite shifts, as Ryan would work early mornings outside in the golf department and I would work evenings in the banquet department. It wasn’t until six years later when I started working outside driving the beverage cart that we started talking and became fast friends. With Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club being the place where we “officially” met, it was only fitting to get married there!”
Engagement story: “It was Christmas morning 2009. Our plan was to gather up our stockings and presents and head over to my mom’s house. However, Ryan was insistent that we open our stockings at our place,” Lindsay recalls. “Ryan brought our stockings up to our bedroom where we sat and opened them with our dog Franklin watching from the foot of the bed. After we were finished with our stockings Ryan told me he had one more gift for me. He ran down to grab the large package from under our tree that I had been eagerly shaking since the beginning of December. I normally have a knack for guessing presents but I could not figure this one out! I opened the package and pulled out and old towel, a t-shirt, and a few other random items from around the house. I finally got to the bottom of the box where I spotted a magazine. I knew immediately that it was a wedding magazine from the Cartier advertisement on the back. As I pulled it out and flipped it over to confirm my suspicion, Ryan had somehow managed to pull out the ring box from behind him and was down on one knee. He told me that there was no place he would rather be than together in our house with our little family. It was the perfect proposal that completely captured our relaxed, fun-loving personalities.”
