About the couple
Bride: Julie Cho
Groom: Jae Kim
How they met: “We first met in 2003 through a conference for Christian youths. We were both in the worship band, Jae on the drums and I was one of the singers. I was going into Grade 11 and Jae had just graduated from high school. We got to know each other then but didn’t really develop a friendship or anything. Fast forward to 2006, I was in second year at UBC while Jae had gone to music school in LA and was traveling/working in various places. I’d decided to volunteer again for the same conference that year, and guess who I met in the band again? Jae! This time we became closer friends during the three-day conference. That spring Jae had plans to go to Japan for a few months. It just so happened that my friends (one of whom is also Jae’s close friend and roommate) and I had already booked a trip to Japan too for the summer, so we decided to meet up in Japan. We travelled together and eventually started dating,” says Julie.
Engagement story: “We naturally started talking about getting married in Fall 2010,” recalls Julie. “The topic came up again early in 2011 and we gave it some serious thought and concluded that we were ready. At first I thought sometime the following year, maybe spring or fall of 2012, but Jae suggested fall 2011 instead. We gave it lots of thought and he was right– there was no reason for us to extend our engagement so we started making some big wedding decisions. I am still waiting for a formal ‘proposal’ from Jae though,” Julie jokes.
