About the couple
Bride: Wendy Hsi
Groom: Joseph Lee
How they met: “We both went to the University of Waterloo and have been friends for 16 years. After Joe graduated, he knew right away what he wanted to do, and he started a software company. I was working at another software company and got laid off, as I was sitting in the parking lot after I heard the news, not knowing what to do I decided to give Joe a call and see if he had any openings in his company. That was seven years ago. Two years ago we became more than just friends. He is my business partner, my best friend and now my husband,” says Wendy.
Engagement story: “We had been talking about doing a trip to New York. Out of the blue, Joe told me that we’d be going Halloween weekend. We were in New York walking around and someone came up to me and offered me a stuffed animal dog. I didn’t even think about it and said, ‘No thank you’; You just don’t accept gifts from strangers! She told me to take it, pushed it into my hands and left. I was very confused and looked at Joe, who also looked confused. Then a few minutes later another girl came up to me and said, ‘Welcome to New York, this is a special city, especially for you. You deserve some chocolates’ and handed me a box of chocolates and left. Before I even had time to say anything to Joe, another girl came up to me in a masquerade mask and gave me a bouquet of red roses. In the bouquet of roses, there was a card and it said ‘Look in your left pocket’. I reached in my left jacket pocket and pulled out a box, and Joe got down on one knee,” explains Wendy.
