An Outdoor Vintage Wedding in Cowichan Valley, British Columbia
About the couple
Bride: Elaine Han
Groom: Christopher Chow
How they met: “Chris and I met six years ago working at a restaurant. I had just moved to Calgary from Edmonton for a much-needed new start. I wasn’t interested in dating, but within a month, Chris made his move and his genuine heart and outgoing personality won me over,” says Elaine.
Engagement story: “Chris’ proposal was a complete surprise to me. Our families were well aware of his plan and did a perfect job not leaking any hints to me, even my mother! The two of us were visiting my parents out on Vancouver Island and Chris suggested we go on a hike near Tofino,” explains Elaine. “The trail runs along the ocean wall with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. There was a secluded viewpoint that we had previously enjoyed and we began searching for it on the trail. I still had no idea that he would propose. Some time had passed and we still hadn’t found our spot. We finally realized that one of the busy viewing areas was our viewpoint, but it had been expanded likely due to the incredible view of the waves crashing on the rocks. The new standing area was busy with other hikers so I suggested we continue on with the hike. However, Chris noticed a little path from the trail down to the rocks and we decided to explore it. We found a rock to sit on where we were away from the trail and other hikers. Chris began talking about our relationship and future and still I didn’t pick up that he was about to propose. When the moment arrived, Chris very shakily got down on one knee as best (as he could on the rocks) and asked me to marry him — and then I got it, and said yes.”
