Wedding date: March 27, 2011
Wedding theme: “We both come from very large, very traditional Jewish families. We tried very hard to incorporate all of our families’ traditions, whilst letting our quirkiness/individuality shine through. Aaron is a musician, so the ceremony and reception music were very important to him. We’re huge fans of the 50s/60s formal aesthetic, so it was important for us that the decor and invitations reflected that. We are both kind of weird, so we kind of wanted that to come off as well,” explains Michelle.
Guests: 290
Best moment: “For me, it was as I was walking down the aisle. It was surreal and mind-blowing. After growing up together, and going through so much we finally made it,” says Michelle.
Most unexpected moment: “Aaron’s siblings floored us with a surprise performance to start off the night. It was a parody of Frank Sinatra’s ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ called ‘Goldbar’ — an amalgamation of our surnames,” says Michelle.
Wedding song: “The Glory of Love” by Otis Redding. “Truthfully I was going through an Otis Redding phase at the time that we had to make a song choice. I had his albums on repeat and ‘The Glory of Love’ reminded me so much of our relationship that it kept making me cry,” says Michelle. “It’s about the give and take in a relationship; How the good comes with the bad, and how, when all else fails, you have one another. We have been through quite a lot together, and I felt that it was so appropriate. I played it for Aaron and he loved it.”
Honeymoon: A Mediterranean cruise cushioned by two family weddings in Israel.
