A DIY Garden Party Wedding in Bloomingdale, Ontario
About the couple
Bride: Heidi Headon
Groom: Bryce Fleming
How they met: “We met at church when we were in grade four,” explains Heidi. “Our families had known each other for many years and reconnected when we started attending the same church. My first memory is of a family hike we went on together — I was totally shy and I probably didn’t even talk to him because I was so nervous! We attended the same school from grades eight through 11 and then completed a 10-month internship at the church after high school. At the end of that year is the first time we were both mutually interested in each other, so that’s really where the story began.”
Engagement story: “As a kid, my grandparents owned the most amazing little cottage in Northern Ontario and it was my favourite place to go with my family on vacation. It had been a few years since I had been on Horseshoe Lake because the cottage was sold when my grandpa passed away, but luckily my uncle built a cottage on the lake just down the road. We went for the weekend to visit Bryce’s aunt and uncle (who ironically live 30 minutes from Horseshoe Lake). We went for a drive together back to Horseshoe Lake to see the cottage. I was completely emotional already, just because of all the amazing memories that place had held for me. We stopped at my uncle’s cottage and walked around back, down to the dock. Bryce had not yet given me my birthday present (my birthday was two weeks earlier), so he let me carry the gift down to the dock to open. I opened it up and pulled out a Dallas Cowboys jersey (Bryce is a huge fan!) I had been bugging him for a while that I didn’t have any football memorabilia, and I needed something to match him while watching Sunday night football. I loved it. Plus, it had my favourite number on the front. I wondered what name was on the back, you know, what player I was representing. So I turned it around and saw “Fleming,” Bryce’s last name, and before I really even noticed what was happening, he was on one knee beside me,” says Heidi.
