How they met: “We met in Ottawa while attending Carleton University. Our love story began after we met at a mutual friend’s house. While my first impression of Kalum was nothing special, Kalum says he knew right away that I was his soul mate and persevered until he convinced me to give him a chance. This was over eight years ago and we haven’t left each other’s side since,” say Manique

Engagement story: “I had the ring and just needed a place to pop the question. On June 5, 2009 I took Manique to the neighbourhood where she grew up to watch the shooting stars,” explains Kalum. “It was an unusually cold night so we stopped for coffee before we drove to the lookout point by her childhood house. As I hoped, Manique’s hands were chilled and like she always does when she is cold, she put her hands into my pockets. She found the warmth she was seeking but after a few short seconds, she also found something else unexpected. As she pulled the ring out of my pocket, I got down on one knee and the next thing you knew, we were engaged!”
