Chic Fall Centrepieces

Do you find yourself dreaming of the glamorous floral centrepieces you see in wedding magazines?  I did.  Needless to say, once I found out how much those looks would cost I promptly discovered there are many ways you can get a similar look for less. With the help from friends at Trillium Floral Designs, I will share some tips to get the splurge look for less!

Splurge: $50 to $60

This splurge centrepiece features hot fall colours and flowers to create a sophisticated look, including:
- Cranberry mini calla lilies
- Yellow cymbidium orchids
- Red roses
- Looped bear grass
- Aspidistra leaf curled around the vase bottom

Orchids are one of my favourite flowers and I love the pop of colour they provide to offset the deep reds.

Save: $20 to $25

If you love the splurge look but can’t justify the price, this equally stunning, but half price version features the same colours to remain consistent with the fall colour scheme, but instead of callas and orchids, it features:

- Red spray roses
- Yellow wax flowers
- Looped bear grass  (as above)
- Aspidistra leaf (as above)

Also, rather than using the large roses in the splurge bouquet, we chose spray roses.  These smaller roses have three-four heads on a stem, and for a centrepiece like this, you only need two to three stems to create a fuller look for less! To add the pop of colour I loved from the cymbidium orchids above, we used yellow wax flowers.

Balancing your save and splurge mentality when it comes to flowers just means getting creative!  Here are some additional ideas to help you have your cake and eat it too when it comes to floral centrepieces:

Consider renting! Remember that when you’re buying floral centrepieces, you are also buying the vases they sit in.  Vases like the ones used above come in many different sizes. Choosing a smaller vase will lower your price. Better yet, ask if you can rent them, or search out cheaper options online like these vases on SmartBride Boutique.

Mix it up! Think about using a mix of fresh flowers and dried flowers (i.e. pods) and fruit.  This can be a lot less expensive and berries and twigs look great for fall and winter weddings.

One size does not have to fit all! Consider using different sizes of centrepieces for different tables.  This creates “levels”, adding interest and dimension to your overall look.
