What is a Glamelia?

{left to right: image via Michael George, image via Mindy Weiss}

The other day my friend asked me if I could recommend a few florists who could create a Glamelia. I was embarrassed to admit that I was unfamiliar with the term–immediately piquing my interest I did a quick search (thank-you Google images) and found it! I was relieved to learn that I’ve actually see these type of bouquets before (we featured a gorgeous one in our Fall + Winter 2009 issue). GLAMELIA. GLAMELIA. GLAMELIA. I don’t think I’ll forget a name like that. Anywho, I did a bit more research and according to Rhonda Patton, a Glamelia dates back to the 40s and 50s and are handmade from individual rose petals (or other flower petals) and crafted to look like one large bloom. The design can be tedious and time consuming, but the result is clearly beautiful.

    Wow that would be quite the process!!! I wonder how long the petals would last before they started to wilt though.

    When I saw the blog title I was curious as I’d never heard of Glamelias before. I love the fullness of it but I can only imagine how tedious the process would be. So pretty :).
