DIY: Candy Favours

A few weeks ago my guy’s sister–Jeanette–celebrated her 18th birthday–in Filipino tradition we call it a debut. Long definition short, a debut signifies the “coming of age” for any woman into society, sort of like, a debutante ball if you will. Depending on your personality and style, debuts can really be super-formal, almost like a wedding sans the groom. Jeanette, being a huge rock enthusiast, opted for a more informal affair. She wanted to celebrate with her friends in true rock and roll mode, so in lieu of formal attire, she asked everyone to attend in their best “rock” outfits. It was pretty amazing, it’s not everyday that you’re privy to about 100 leather jacket-wearing teens. Anywho, not wanting to shift away from tradition too much, Jeanette still kept a few formal debut elements–one being a three-tier cake (she’s a sweet-a-holic like moi!) and the second being elegant favours. My challenge? Or, better yet, my mission was to transform delicious candy into a chic giveaway, while not breaking the bank.

So, there I was, three bags filled with nothing but lollipops, rockets, tootsie rolls and chocolate/vanilla caramels. After much pondering and procrastinating, I decided on a clean yet pretty look–goodie bags. Basically, all I did for these favours was grab a handful of candy (er, if I may suggest a tip, eat a meal before you do this, or you might end up munching away on the favours. Don’t worry Jeanette, I only ate like 10!), used a pretty back ribbon (grosgrain is a good type, it makes it easier to tie), snipped off those faux roses that you can buy at the dollar store, glued the roses on top of the ribbon (a handy glue gun will do the trick), then I took some labels and used a pretty stamp for the written “Thank You”! And, voila!

Hopefully this has inspired you to do a little DIY magic of your own for your special day. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Would love to hear from you.

Oh, and p.s. a huge thanks to 4ENS Photography for turning around the images in such a short period. I would have never known how pretty the favours looked–especially on camera. So–THANK YOU!
