Flavour of the Week

You know how some days you love your job and other days you feel totally out of it? Well, let’s just say last Tuesday was definitely an “I love my job” day. Not just because the weather was so darn nice, but also because I was expecting a big load of cupcakes, cookies and cakes to come in that day for a photoshoot.
But what really made my day was when Elaine, owner of Elaine’s Cake Boutique (cakeboutique.ca), dropped off samples of her cookies and mini-cakes for us to taste test, and they were, um, delicious! I must’ve OD’d on them because I had a sugar crash right after, but it was so worth it. Her Tiffany-box mini-cake made out of sinful chocolate was my fave overall. I’m a huge chocolate lover (Alison, Jenn, Steph and Nicole can attest to that). And, you can trust me when I say her chocolate cake was really, really good! I looked on Elaine’s site to see all the other flavours that she offers, and some really interesting ones caught my eye: lychee, chocolate cherry and Bailey’s ’n’ cream—they all sound like heaven to me. I know most couples tend to play it safe with their wedding cake flavours. But if you are going in for a taste test (which I highly recommend), ask your cake designer to suggest some exotic flavours. You’ll be surprised how delicious they actually are. If you’re unsure how guests will react to a less traditional flavour, I say compromise by having one tier in a classic chocolate or vanilla and the other(s) in something a bit more original.

As a person, Elaine is so great to work with, and super talented!
