As with any home renovation, it takes careful considering if you intend to use the historic elements of a venue and mix those with modern styles.
A groom of mine (who happens to work in home renovation) knew exactly how to pull together the beautiful old world charm of Enoch Turner Schoolhouse with the elements of a modern cocktail party.
Instead of using traditional eight to 10 person guest tables, he filled the schoolhouse with sleek cocktail tables with low-back chairs for mingling and white leather sofas for cozy lounge areas. We accented this furniture with simple bold flowers in large glass rectangular vases brimming with white hydrangea, Mambo roses, and tall Mokara orchids to modernize the design. The flowers gave the room punch with the bright orange, being the only element of colour in the decor.
It is definitely easier to find a venue that suites the theme of your wedding, but if you are creative and want a challenge, look for a venue that will add interest to your wedding, and personalize it to suit you! Flowers can then be used as your primary accent, or blended into the theme for a more subtle approach.
