Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to be invited for a dessert tasting at The Drake Hotel. Located in downtown Toronto, I’ve partied and dined at this hotspot more than a couple times (with TIFF around the corner, don’t be surprised if you see some celebs popping in and out—Amanda Seyfried, Penélope Cruz, Rachel McAdams and Orlando Bloom have all be spotted), but was intrigued upon hearing about their unique wedding desserts. Created by Pastry Chef David Chow who’s been at The Drake since it’s conception, my eyes were wowed even before my taste buds.
I started to salivate as soon as I saw one of their more popular wedding dessert options—the Bake Sale. Overflowing with delectable treats like cinnamon sugar donuts, chocolate chip cookies, shortbread, red velvet cupcakes, candy corn, wild blueberry crumble bars—all mini of course. It’s the perfect mix (and size) of comfort sweets. Of course, it’s completely customizable (I didn’t even mention everything on the table!) such as including a cake (they had three flavours in this case), perfect if you want to have your cake and eat it too.

One dessert option I totally fell in love with immediately was their homemade ice cream bars and sandwiches. The sandwich was Ontario strawberry ice cream and dark chocolate, while the bars were three different combos of chocolate and ice cream—absolutely delish!

Ashely Arvai, The Drake’s event coordinator told me how they only use natural ingredients to create these goodies—so it really is just like Grandma’s. If you’re looking for something totally out-of-the-box, or even if you do go for something traditional like their gorgeous wedding cakes, you’ll definitely find it at The Drake. Yummy!!
