I’m just back from the Big Apple where Catherine, WB’s living specialist, and I power-schmoozed our way through all the fabulous spring dinnerware introductions you’ll be coveting for your registry. One of the biggest buzzes at the New York show: bridal designer Monique Lhuillier for Royal Doulton.
Monique is already famous for her gorgeous wedding gowns and red carpet numbers worn by practically all of Hollywood’s leading ladies. She has now added fine bone china to her design portfolio, launching five patterns (Atelier, Femme Fatale, Etoile, Dentelle, Pointe D’esprit) all true to her elegant, pretty and simple style. All will be rolled out in January and will be available at Royal Doulton stores, The Bay, William Ashley, Linen Chest and other fine retailers. Here I am snapped with Monique at Royal Doulton’s fashionable soiree to introduce her gorgeous designs. Monique’s line was certainly a highlight of the show, but there were definitely others. Three notable things Catherine and I saw and are currently obsessed with:
1. Wedgwood’s new Asian-inspired Dynasty pattern. The white bone china body has a salad plate decorated with brilliant orange Asian tigers, while the dinner plates feature a crackled chocolate brown border and gold detailing. Simply gorgeous and a great way to infuse your table with a touch of the exotic.
2. Lenox’s new line of Simply Fine bone china, featuring four whimsical, nature-inspired motifs. Our favourite is Chirp, which features a pretty bird motif and a turquoise, orange and espresso colour palette on a white bone body.
3. Neutral tones. Practically every showroom we visited from Denby to Portmeirion to Royal Crown Derby featured new patterns in barely-there palettes. Stone, buff, khaki and smoke are the new hot shades du jour.
