Encore “I Dos”

Are celebrities just being greedy when it comes to tying the knot a second time around? In case you haven’t heard there are two “second” weddings going on this weekend, and I’m not talking about remarriage, but actually couples who are celebrating the same union twice. First is the media-crazed MTV reality show duo from The Hills, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, who are “officially” doing the deed this Saturday according to people.com. As opposed to their Mexico nuptials, their California wedding is going to be much more traditional, as it will include family and friends and not be induced by alcohol! The rehearsal dinner is supposed to be held at Wolfgang Puck’s hotspot Cut in Beverly Hills. You think Lauren was invited?
On the other side of the ocean is Salma Hayek who already said “I do” in Paris just this past Valentine’s Day and is now having another wedding in Italy with celebrity guests like Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas. I think it totally makes sense for celebrities to do their ceremony quietly, especially if they’re looking for ultimate privacy—hence surprise marriages like Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson and Beyoncé and Jay-Z. But when does it become overkill? Take for example a destination wedding. If you have a small one in the Caribbean, do you have a second one at home? Or can you only have a second if you elope?
Personally I think if you do the ceremony privately, then for sure have a second party and invite your friends and family, but if you’re going for an intimate wedding, once is enough!
What are your thoughts about having more than one wedding to the same person? Trendy or tacky?
