PLEASE READ “HEATHER’S” FROM SEPT 18 2009 @ 3:05PM. IT’S LONG BUT SOOOO WORTH IT!!!
Our story is purely entertaining. Like our relationship, our engagement was just as “a?#-backwards”. We were already planning our Ranch-style wedding even if we weren’t officially engaged yet. He always said he wanted our engagement to be private. Nobody but us will experience our “moment”. I ageed so long as we were engaged before we sign papers binding us to a venue or church ect. We fell in love with a particular Ranch Bed & Breakfast to host the entire event. It was down to crunch time, we needed to give our deposit. But he still didn’t propose! On Thursday July 16th we arrived at the venue. That’s it it’s gonna happen! I’ve had my nails done, I’m READY! OH OH my Mom has shown up to see the place!!! All I kept thinking is he’s not going to do it!!?? After walking the grounds a little, she decides to take off behind the building leaving Wade & I under the very Log gazebo we will be saying our vows under. It doesn’t take a genuis to figure out what happened next…Yes he asked me to marry him, then got down on 1 knee(still admits he kinda messed that part up) YAY WE ARE ENGAGED! I was “Over the moon” to put it lightly. Everything was coming together! Nothing could prepare me for what happened next…After signing our agreement we were off to my parents house to celebrate. When we arrived to their house, I had already spoken to 5 people during the ride home. When in the house, my Mom pulled out a brown wicker case. In it, was an old bottle of CrownRoyal Whisky, un-opened that my late grandfather bought in 1977. As my Mom made her toast, telling everyone that my grandfather had expressed that the “bottle was only to be opened on the night of Kizzy’s (my nickname) engagement”. As tears flowed, the family rejoiced as we all drank our whisky. That night I had a strange feeling something wasn’t right. Slept on it and waited till the next day where I phoned my Mom and asked if everything was ok. She replied ” NO, I’m not feeling well, & haven’t been since last night. I think I ate bad MeatLoaf, or maybe that shot of whisky made me sick?”. After carefull questioning, it had come to my attention that my mother may be having some sort of heart problem. In my rush to her house I urged my brother to call 911. The paramedics arrived shortly after I got there. According to an EKG performed, I was right! In the end my mother was rushed to the hospital where she underwent a week of care and stints placed in her body because she had indeed had a heart attack at 54 yrs old on the day of her only daughters engagement. She has since recovered very well without any indication that she ever had the heart attack. I told my Mom that she’s not to get emotional anymore, not to drink 30yr old liquor and certainly not to eat anynore Meatloaf. Our Wedding is October 2 2010 and we are waiting to see what kind of stories will arise regarding Mom’s traumatic experience.Overall her attack was a strange blessing, she recovered exeptionally, she quit smoking, and gave us all a wake-up call…Not to take life for granted! Love you Mom, Thanks for making this engagement one that MANY won’t forget!
My fiance and I have been together off and on (mostly on) for just over 4 years. We had a great deal of “marriage conversations” in the past year – but not alot of movement on it. He always joked that he would get me a ring out of a gumball machine or a Cracker Jack box. This past weekend we took my 2 boys to Canada’s Wonderland for some end of summer fun. We had lunch in the picnic pavillion and at the end, he said he had a special treat from the States for dessert. He went to the truck and came back with a bag. He handed out a bag of Cracker Jacks to each of the boys, himself and then me. I let the boys open theirs to get their prize, then began to open mine. As I did, he came around the end of the table with a smurk on his face.I reached in for my prize, pulled out a box, which he took from my hand and opened up. I squealed and laughed at the same time! He got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. Of course I said yes! He was right in the end I guess – he was determined to get me a ring from a Cracker Jack box! We are getting married in September 2010.
You know how they say there is a switch that goes off it a guy’s head when he wants to get married… that is what happend.
I was staying home from work with a headache and my fiance joe came home fom work and called me to meet him in the living room. I came out and he was standing there looking anxious. I asked what was wrong and he said he wanted to talk to me (internal dialogue starts screaming at me at this point)
So we stand there and he starts talking about how all day he had been thinking about life and where he wanted to go and what he wanted to do etc. And he said that there was one thing he didn’t want to wait any longer to do. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried like a little baby lol.
In all his excitement he didn’t take the time to buy a ring so a week and a half later we went ring shopping and the wedding is set for 2011 :)
Mine isn’t romantic like anyone else’s story but it is unique thats for sure ! It was a week before Valentines day and thats when the flyers for all the jewellery stores go out. I was looking at one and as a joke said “We should go to Paris Jewellers. This ring is really pretty.” Then he said “Ok.” I was completely shocked because previous to this i was always joking around about marriage and proposals. So we went the next day to the jewellery store found a ring (not the one from the flyer but a different one) picked it up and he drove us to the park where we had our first kiss. It was winter and here in Edmonton, we get lots of snow so he says “I’d get out of the car and kneel on my knee but there’s lots of snow on the ground so I’ll do it in the car.” (ha ha) Even though i knew it was coming I started crying like a baby and agreed to the proposal (OF COURSE!)He told me lots of loving, romantic stuff but because i was trying to stop crying i kept looking away from him and tried not to listen to anything too sweet that would make me burst out into MORE tears ha ha…yup defintley Unique and I wouldnt have had it any other way :D
With my story, you’d think that the wedding wouldn’t even be happening. However for some reason, I seem to be totally infatuated with my fiance. My story has a bit of a back story to it, otherwise it would make no sense at all.
It was May 2006 and Justin and I had been dating for almost 2 years. Not far into the relationship Justin started saying “I heart you.” which was his cute little way of saying I love you. Justin had finished his education to become a chef and was working as a 2nd year apprentice at the Ramada Hotel in town. I was finishing off my massage course. Our schedules were so conflicting it wasn’t even funny. Even though we lived together, the only time I would see him was when we were sleeping. And it’s really hard to see someone with your eyes shut. We were both getting frustrated with this lifestyle so he decided that he was going to quit his apprenticeship and get away. When Justin says he is going to get away, he means it. The day after I “graduated” from massage school, I was putting him on a plane to Australia for three months. Needless to say, I was not very happy about this.
After about a week, he was sick of being away from me and just talking on Skype was not working for either of us. So he decided that he was going to spend the rest of the money that he took with him and have fun and then come back after just a month. We didn’t let anyone else know that he was coming home. So the day his plane came into Vancouver, I went and picked him up and then we drove off to Harrison Hot Springs for the weekend. It was there that he finally popped the question for real. But instead of the traditional ring, he had brought me back an opal necklace. It wasn’t the way that I expected him to propose, considering it wasn’t a diamond ring and it wasn’t under a waterfall. It was in our hotel room. He basically handed me the necklace and said “marry me”. I was then able to find an actual ring that matches the necklace, so when I don’t want to wear the necklace, I can take it off but I still have a ring on.
Hi!
I would love to share my engagement story, because it was one I will never forget….
It was Christmas morning and my fiance and I woke up early in the morning and spent our first Christmas with our daughter who was 4 weeks old. We were cuddling together in bed and my fiance asked if we could have pancakes for breakfast as he was craving them. In my head I was thinking “why don’t you make them, since I just gave birth to our daughter!”. I happily agreed, got up and started making them. As I finished making breakfast, my fiance asked me to change our daughter’s sleeper because he had gotten it dirty. Again, in my head I was thinking “Why don’t you change it, I just finished making your darn pancakes!!!”. I told him she could keep it on until after breakfast but he insisted I change her so she would be fresh and clean for our first Christmas breakfast together. So I brought our daughter to our living room, laid her on the couch and proceeded to undo her sleeper. As I unbuttoned her sleeper, I discovered something on her undershirt. It said ” Will you marry my daddy?” and I was so confused, I turned around and my fiance was on one knee holding a box with a ring. He had planned the engagement for weeks, got one of our daughter’s onesie’s and silk screened it. I was so shocked and excited and happily agreed. This is one engagement I will never forget as my daughter was an accomplice with her father and she didn’t even know it!

My fiance and I took a trip down to Florida in mid March (we live in Ontario, so it was a MUCH needed vacation…). We were on our way for a week – on the 4th day of our trip, we got back to the condo that night, and decided it was time to just relax and do nothing. It was the first day we saw nice weather on our Florida vacation, so we decided to walk along the docks and just be out by the ocean. Well lucky for my fiance, there was some form of occasion going on close by, and fireworks started to go off. We stood there – just watching the fireworks, he had his arms wrapped around me. The fireworks stopped, and he turned me around, grabbed my hand, dropped down to one knee and asked me to marry him. When I stopped sobbing for a second, I of course said yes!! :o)
I found out after that point as well that I had actually found the ring on our way to Florida – and didn’t know I had found it.. We were in the airport checking our luggage, and we had disposable cameras in our suitcase – we were told we had to take them out, or they’d be ruined by the scanner. So he started looking and of course couldn’t find them. So after he couldn’t hold me off any longer, I had to start digging through the suitcase trying to find them – apparently I had actually grabbed the ring and had it almost out of the suitcase (he told me he saw the box in my hand, and I didn’t even realize what it was). So there he was, standing in the airport, sweating as he watched me holding the engagment ring – trying desperately to try and figure out how to make this into a romantic situation.. too funny!.
And that is our engagement story!! One I will never forget! :o)

Isn’t it a little presumptuous in 2009 to assume that *he* made the proposal?
Kyle and I have been together for 7 years, and living together for 2. We had talked about marriage a few times, and knew that both of us were ready for it. Every morning, he leaves for work at 6:30am and just before he leaves the house he gives me a kiss. This particular morning I heard him come in, but he didn’t come give me a kiss. So, I rolled over and there he was, On one knee with a gorgeous ring. He didn’t have to say anything, the smile on his face and the little tear in the corner of his eye said it all. I squealed and said yes! I am so happy, and can’t wait for 2012!!!
After being married before and exceptionally bad divorce my boyfriend was a little gun shy about the prospect of getting married again. I understood this and was happy to just be together. One evening, we were sitting in the back yard of our house and he gave me a small blue box from Tiffany and I admit that my first thought was…RING… I opened it and found a beautiful chain with a small Tiffany key (the disappointment lasted about 10 seconds)He told me that he loved me and that he wanted to be with me forever. He then told me that the key was to his heart; that had been locked for a long time (corny but so sweet it made me cry) and then he asked me if I wanted to wear it. I took it out the box and attached to the chain was my beautiful engagment ring….I couldnt believe it. I am very excited to be getting married to the love of my life in 2011…..
I have to give you the short version of this. Richard had made dinner reservations at The Red Violin. Now, I thought it was just one of those “dates,” know what I mean? We made our way out to my driveway, and parked in front of my house was a beautiful white stretch limousine. I was in disbelief We climbed into the limousine and made our way to the restaurant. We were seated and there was a live band; the night was lovely, and I really thought it was the perfect evening. All of a sudden, the band stopped playing and we heard an announcement being made. “Oh we have something very special happening here tonight; someone has an announcement to make.” The musicians turned to Richard, who got up, took my hand and walked me to the center of the dance floor. Everything stopped; we were right in front of the band; in front of everyone. Richard got down on one knee and proposed to me. Everyone in the restaurant went crazy! They were all cheering and clapping and beating the tables. It was like I was in a movie; felt so surreal. After paying the bill, we headed back to my house. Richard gave me the red rose in the limo saying, “This rose represents who you once were” The drive came to an end as the limo pulled up in my driveway once more. I got to the front door, opened it and was stopped, AGAIN!! Crowded in the stairway, waiting eagerly and patiently, were all my family and friends. They shouted, “SURPRISE CONGRATULATIONS!!!” I still remember trying to take it all in. After we cut a beautiful cake, Richard told me that he had to go home for something, but that he would see me later. I was like, “NO!!! Why would you leave now??” … LOL… but as soon as he left, my MOH took over. I took a seat in the middle of my family room, and, one by one, my friends came up to me, holding a single pink rose in their hand. Each person told me what I mean to them, and offered me words of encouragement. Every time someone came up, they gave me their pink rose which I added to the single red rose I had received from Richard. Pretty soon, I had a beautiful bouquet in my hands! Later, my MOH told me to put my jacket on and said, “Let’s go!!” She drove me to Richard’s house. I got a text message on my phone that read, “Follow the candles” I went inside his house. The whole house was beautifully lit with candles that led all the way up to his room. When I got to the room, he wasn’t there. The entire floor was covered with beautiful rose petals. Candles wrapped along the walls of his room. A white chair dressed in a white robe with two more red roses on it stood in the centre. There was saxophone music playing softly in the background. I was taking it all in when I received another text asking me to have a seat and that he would be right there. As I waited, my heart racing, he entered and knelt in front of me. Richard started by telling me how much he loved me. He then gave me the two roses that were sitting on the chair. “One rose represents our present love and the other rose represents our love to come as husband and wife.” WOW! I was melting. He picked up the Bible and began to read about love from 1 Corinthians. “Love is patient, Love is kind…” His words washed over me. After reading, he spoke, “I am not going to love you the way the world teaches us to love, but I am going to love you the way scripture teaches us to love.” He turned to the book of John and read the passage where Jesus washes the disciples’ feet as an act of servant hood to them. Jesus was such a great leader, but He humbled Himself to do that for them. I still remember Richards’ next words: the mark of a true leader is one that will put others first and commit to serve others first. Esther, I am committed to serving you as your husband for the rest of my life. When he finished, he held my hands, bowed his head down on my knees and prayed over our relationship again. So I couldn’t keep it short, sorry! Too many details I couldn’t have left out. This was a night I will never forget.
In October 2008 we went to Maui on a family trip. Its a tradition of ours to go to a luau when ever we’re in Hawaii. At the luau was a beautiful sunset in pinks and yellows I’ve never seen before. As I went to get closer to the water to take some pictures Mike came up to me and said he’d take some with me in them. When I grabbed the camera back to look at them, all of a sudden he was on his knee holding a ring up to me. With a trembling voice and using my whole name he asks me to marry him. His family seated at the table didn’t all know what was happening. Our brother-in-law was actually hiding behind a tree filming the whole thing, tears and all. When we went to sit down everyone started cheering for us. I’ll never forget THAT sunset!
On May 30th 2008, Ryan and I had purchased our first house together. Our first year of living together was great, but it also had A LOT of downs! Through-out the year we always talked about getting married but we both knew money was really tight, since Ryan was laid off about 6 months after moving in. So when our year anniversary of living together was right around the corner, Ryan had decided to celebrate it by recreating our first date. Which meant meeting for coffee, getting a couple of drinks and seeing a movie. I was thrilled that he thought of something so romantic to do. I thought for sure at the end of our date, he would of popped the question, It just seemed like something he would do. So the date started and came to an end, and no ring. I wasnt upset I just figured this wasn’t going to be the moment. When we got home and were getting ready for bed, Ryan asked me to go downstairs to get a glass of water for him. when I came back up, he told me to sit on the bed and close my eyes. Meanwhile he was telling me how lucky he was to have found me and how much he loved me. When I opened my eyes he was down on one knee and before he could actually ask me to be his wife I was crying and I was so excited screaming YES, I can’t even remember his exact words that he used. But the memory will always be there!
Jason and I went into People’s so I can look for a heart shaped necklace when I looked at a case with a necklace I liked I heard him talk to one of the clerks. I was hoping it was about my necklace but when I turned around to see if he liked it he was where the wedding rings were, so I went to him and he asked me “How do you like this ring?” I thought it was cute and I said so. Next thing I know he’s on one knee asking me to marry him. As I type this he’s saving money to get me the ring. So right now I’m using one of my older rings
Brian went through a few ideas that didn’t work including bride and groom canucks jerseys that we ended up in a fight over because I ordered other jerseys for us as a playoff gift, a re-enactment of our first date when he forgot the ring, another fabulous romantic date set up where he didn’t get the ring in time, and a staff meeting gone terribly late so we missed out date altogether:(
Finally, on father’s day we planned to take the little ferry from Victoria to Mill Bay and walk to the beach where we scattered my dad’s ashes 3 years ago and leave him some flowers. We got to the ferry and a freak hailstorm came on so we had to give up and take the drive all the way to Mill Bay instead. When the hail started he gave me his jacket and I wore it the whole drive not knowing that the ring was right in the pocket!
We got to the beach and laid the flowers in the water and said a few words and then he took my hands and cuddled me close and said that this was the perfect moment and he just wished he could ask me to marry him, throwing me off completely. He then went on a long spiel about our relationship and how special I am to him and the dreams he has for our life together. I had no idea he was actually going to propose until I felt him riffling through the jacket pocket that I was still wearing and he pulled out the box and got on one knee and asked me to marry him.
It was so special that it was in front of my dad, at a beach where I spent a lot of time growing up in the small town that is still a huge part of my heart. He says it wasn’t planned and that he just couldn’t wait any longer but it was perfect!
I expected it to happen on my birthday, but when the day came and went with no ring, I figured that I was getting ahead of myself.
So a few days later when we went up North with my children in tow, imagine how surprised I was went at 7am the morning after we arrived, there was a knock at the bedroom door. “Are my kids crazy?” I said. “It’s 7am on the first day of vacation!!”, but I told them to come in anyway.
My eldest (who was 10 at the time) looked at me and said “mom, X wants to know if you’ll marry him…..” and my youngest handed me a lovely silver heart shaped box (he was only 7). I looked at my honey and started to cry.
It was just a beautiful way to involve my kids in the whole thing and of course, I said yes!!
Turns out, my fiance and my eldest had had to keep it totally secret overnight and both had barely slept with excitement.
I have wonderful men in my life!!!!
p.s. he did actually ask me himself……after he took a bit of ribbing for getting the kids to do it first :)
Well Travis and I had decided to go out to the bar with some friends. We had a great time I was getting a little tipsy and Travis had to drive so he had all of of two drinks. At the end of the night.. a couple of our friends got into a big fight (they are fine now) but at the time it was just a crazy misunderstanding. On the way home I told Travis I never wanted to fight like that ever, as in the past I have gotten really upset with him and now felt bad. He agreed. When we got home we just put our PJs on and he looked at me and said…”Do you care if there is a ring right now??” A little confused I asked… ummm nooooooo…. kinda knowing but not, and he said “Will you marry me?” I started crying and said I would. That afternoon we went to the mall and I got to pick out my ring.. it was great… and when he came home the next day with the ring, he did it again… it was really sweet.
Dustin and I had a few friends over to our house for my birthday, it was small and intimate but exactly what I wanted that year. We all decided to get out the kareoke machine and have a few rounds of singing, well the song “How do I live” by Trisha Yearwood came on so I threw my arms around Dustin’s neck and sang it to him (without a mic of course) well by the end of the song, we were involved in each other and just as it ended Dustin knelt down in front of me and said “Sammi, how do I live with out YOU?” with the ring box open in his hand. Of course I instantly began to cry which invoked his tears. After what seemed like an hour of crying looking at the ring Dustin said “Sammi…. Will you marry me?” I said “YES!!!” and we had an amazing half hour hug! That was in July of 2006 and our wedding is planned for Aug. 08, 08… We are so excited!
My love, Jordan and i have been dating for 3 years before he propsed. Note that he is a huge poetry writer and he said this to me on the waterfront trail river bank, at sunset overlooking the sun meet the water:
“Through sadness and joy, i will love you. There is no one in my heart higher above you. If you told me to leave you, i fear i would be unable. For our love is the love you hear about in fables. The mere sight of your smile makes my heart dance with glee. Your the only one i wish to wake up and see. Yes we will have our ups and our downs. But to me, this love does truly sound. Like the ones from stories so this must be true. For many times over, i will be deeply in love with you. I cannot let go of this feeling that i get. The feeling as though an angel i met. Within my eyes, you are all that i see. An endless mountain of love to give to me. I love you and need you, i need you right here. For when i am with you, i have nothing to fear. I finally found love that i thought never could be. I guess what I am trying to say is. Kayla Meghan Henderson, will you marry me?” Course i shouted “YES!!!” and cried in joy. I stared at my ring which seemed like forever. Which i might add is absolutely gorgeous. Oh yes, We celebrated our engagement with icecream :). That was June of 06 and we are getting married June 2010
To begin with, my favourite movie is the Wedding Singer, thus making the most romantic song song ever ” I wanna grow old with you”. I got home on a Sunday afternoon, unlocked my apartment door to hear that song playing and a sign posted on the wall saying “go to the bedroom”. I went to the bedroom and the door was closed with a sign on it saying “open carefully and come find me”. I opened the door slowly to a sea of white balloons. (I popped only one on entrance.) I couldn’t see anything but balloons. I eventually found my FH on his knee in his suit holding the box with my ring. It was absolutely perfect and I didn’t suspect a thing! We ended the night with dinner at Hy’s Steakhouse and I must say the proposal before dinner was fabulous since I was able to get all dolled up without wondering why!!!
Ryan and I lived a 13 hour drive apart at this point so he flew me up to visit. The next day he asked if I wanted to go see some Caribou out in the fields by his house. I said yes. On the way there, he said he had to make a detour to pick up some car parts. We were driving out by the airport and I was getting confused. We stopped at a helicopter hanger and talked to the Pilot. Ryan asked me to get out….and here I am still thinking about car parts. The pilot asked me to get in and I got excited!!! We flew over Mackenzie, BC to the rocky mountains and to some glacial lakes where we landed. I said they looked like big blue jelly beans, and now they are dubbed Jelly Bean lakes. We got out and walked around to a large stone block and I climbed on top. I turned around and there he was — down on one knee. I can’t remember what he said but I did see the ring and I said yes. He even arranged to have the pilot take pictures while this was going on. Back at home, there was a surprise potluck dinner with all of our friends. I could not have imagined anything better.
It was during Shrek 2, in the beginning where Shrek and Fiona are running in a field of flowers, music is playing, angry villagers are chasing them…..Shaun got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes, after all, the guy has been waiting for 17 years! My very own ogre. I’m a very lucky woman!
We were in Toronto for our anniversary at a beautiful hotel. We had given each other our anniversary presents I night before; I had boudoir pictures done for him and he got me a beautiful swavorski crystal butterfly. I was pretty grouchy that he hadn’t asked me to marry him as I was expecting him too. He could sense that I was a little sad so he said he was going to go get some breakfast for us to eat in bed. When he finally came back he said “I lied to you”, of course my first impression was… uh oh ! I said “what about?” and he said “I wanted to give you this and he presented me with a beautiful little wood trunk that he made himself with a gorgeous ring in it, he asked me if I would marry him and of course the answer was YES!
I had been living and teaching in Thailand for 10 months. Dylan came to see me at the end of my 10 month teaching contract and we planned to travel around for three and a half weeks and then go back to Canada together. Our first destination was Phi Phi Island. Our hotel had a rooftop garden with a spectacular view of the island, the water and mountains in the distance. We took a peek at the garden one evening, but it was too dark to see much of anything. The next morning, before heading to the beach, he took me back up to the rooftop garden so we could see the view in the daylight. The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I said yes of course! I made him pinch me to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Since we had been apart for 10 months and he had been planning to ask me for quite a while, our families and friends all knew it was coming. My sisters had my wedding plans going before I even told them we were engaged. That was on March 5/08 and we are planning our wedding for March 28/09. A truly romantic and unforgettable proposal. : )
It was Adam’s birthday. His mom and I had decided to get him an ice cream cake with a picture of him on it from when he was really little. I was so excited to show him, and when I brought it to his family’s house they asked me to go keep him company while they set it up. Naturally I was so excited, he had no idea we had done this. I went to his room and gave him a letter I had written him the night before telling him how much I love him and how he has changed my life. When he was done reading it, we were called to the kitchen. On the island, the presents were lined up in order to hide the cake. I sat down with him and was just glowing. I picked up a camera so I could get his reaction on film, but he told me to put it down and his sister would take the pictures. I have to admit, I was a little annoyed because photography is my hobby. I put the camera down and decided to just watch his reaction instead. His mom, dad, sister and I began to sing happy birthday and they started bringing the cake over. I was a little offended when I got a glimpse of the side of the cake. I could already tell it wasn’t the one I got him! They stopped singing and placed the cake in front of me! I was confused and looked down at the cake. On it were the words “Will you marry me Elisha?”. I was absolutely shocked. I looked to my left and Adam was on one knee holding a ring. Chocked up, he asked me to marry him. I was so taken aback I apparently took a long time to answer. Once I did, he put the most beautiful ring on my finger that I had ever seen. It was his grandmother’s wedding ring who had suddenly passed a month before. I was shaking so much when I got a hug from everyone. His dad joked that it was a good thing that I said yes because he was looking forward to celebrating in Niagara Falls. I felt so lucky to have had the support from all of his family and I was even luckier to have gotten it all on film, even though I did not notice the flash going off at all. It was the most perfect wedding proposal I could have ever hoped for!
We got engaged during our recent vacation to London, England in June after being together for more than three years.
It was our second day in London and my fiance and I were walking around the city taking in all of the sights. After a long day of walking around London in warm, humid weather we stopped at a traditional English style pub for dinner. Afterwards we got on the subway to head back to our hotel when my fiance asked if I wanted to get off a few stops early and walk back to our hotel. It was a beautiful evening and I had always wanted to walk through Hyde Park, so of course I agreed. As we were walking through Hyde Park on our way back to the hotel he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was in shock as my fiance does not like drawing attention to himself in public, but i of course said YES!! The ring is absolutely beautiful! I can’t stop looking at it every few seconds. We’ll be getting married one year from today – August 8, 2009!
July 9, 2008 – day 6 of our trip in beautiful Taiwan
We’re surrounded by the lush greens amidst the mountains of Sun Moon Lake, we’ve finished breakfast and are heading to our room to pack up for our 3rd destination.
As we’re walking back to our cottage, Marc makes us stop at the pond by the resort’s cottages. He tries to convince me to take a picture of us by the pond (little did I know of his actual intentions!). I tell him that both our camera and my mom’s camera have very little power left and that I had taken pictures of the pond from a few angles.
Marc reaches into his pocket and asks me “Did you take a picture of this angle?” I set eyes on the engagement ring and start hysterically asking “Is this for real? Are you kidding me?” and, nonchalantly, he answers me “Yes.”
Without even thinking, I jump into his arms and start crying the biggest crocodile tears ever! He then asks me “I gather that’s a yes?” and I chuckle “Yes!” as I’m crying away. He puts the ring on my finger and we start hugging, kissing, smiling and laughing out of pure joy!
Eventually, we make our way to our room and finish packing – well…he packed, I just walked in circles from complete disbelief!
It was our first vacation ever together being together for about eight years at this point. We decided to get-a-way to Barbados for a little R&R. My boyfriend at the time wasn’t a very “out-of-the box” kinda guy. He is very energetic yet low key and quite private at the same time. On our arrival at the airport my boyfriend asked me to pick out a good bottle of champagne as we always wanted to sip a glass of bubbly on a beach. A few days had passed and finally on our 4th day on the island we decided to go on an island tour and then spend a quiet evening on the beach with the bubbly. It was a beautiful clear day and we had the most beautiful tour ever which a local guide took us to places not on regular route…later that day it started to pour and of course there goes our evening on the beach! We were tired anyhow and decided to stay in. My boyfriend had made a suggestion to go to the resort’s party which they throw for their guests – I figured why not, it was outdoors on a patio (covered of course) right by the pool, food and drinks, why not? As we arrived they took our room numbers for door prizes…or so I thought. When it was time to pick the winner I had heard our names from a distance and was ecstatic
to hear we had won. We rushed to the front to claim our prize only to find we didn’t actually win!?! The MC for the event turned to me and said that the reason why we were up there was because someone from afar brought me here to ask me a very special question…I look up and see my boyfriend standing across with a video cam and a little red box. He passed the video cam onto someone else…took the microphone and got down on one knee in front of the entire resort and told me how much he loved me and of course the moment I was waiting for – to marry him! I was in complete shock and I couldn’t even say the words, nodding my head frantically up and down…the MC asked, “so is that a yes?” and of course I burst out saying YES YES YES, that’s a YES! After the proposal he pulled out the bottle of champagne and said to me that little did I know I was picking out our engagement bubbly. We immediately called our families back home to share the news and the rest of the week was absolute bliss. We are extremely excited for what is yet to come.
I couldn’t be happier for you guys and I can’t wait to be there to share in the festivities. :)
it was my birthday, October 2007. Ricky took me to the new italian restaurant in town; Amici’s. afterwards we went for a walk along the river. when we got to the lighthouse he asked me where i wanted to be in 5 years as he hugged me from behind and we watched the moonlight over the water and the got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. i cried a bit, we kissed and of course i said yes. then we got the heck out of there cause it was so darn cold!
Jeff is a singer/songwriter, and one particular weekend he’d been recording at a studio with his band. The following Tuesday, he got home late from the office and called me into the living room to show me something on his laptop.
I assumed it was one of the band’s new songs, and when a movie file opened with elementary stickmen drawings set to country-ish music, I thought he and his friends had fooled around and made a video to go with one of the songs. However, after about 30 seconds into the video, when I saw a stick girl in a wheelchair with a muscle-y stick man outside the bar I realized that he was proposing to me with a stickman country music video.
I looked at him, possibly to make sure this was what I thought it was and to get his approval to commence crying and “yes”-ing. When he pulled out the ring, that’s exactly what I did. We watched the movie through with an equal amount of laughing as there was crying. Even though I’d already said “yes” numerous times to the stick man video, he then bent down on his knee and officially asked me.
It was the funniest and most “us” proposal I could ever have hoped for.

Wade proposed on my Birthday in November. Every year for my birthday he makes a scavenger hunt for me. This year he made a CD with the clues on it. I did not know but both my sisters also got CDs telling them to pick out certain words in certain clues (eg: 4th word 2nd clue), at the end they had written on four different sheets of paper “Will You Marry Me” and on the last clue they were told to give me the sheets. The last clue was to my ring that was on the dogs collar. It was very cute and very sweet I could not have asked for better! The best part is that my whole family got to be there and were all included in this amazing moment.
We had been dating for seven years and I moved to Spain for an exchange program for five months. Jamie came to visit me and was wanting to propose there in Spain but things didn’t quite go as he planned. On the day that we both arrived back home in Toronto (he arrived an hour before I did) he was waiting at the terminal with all of my family. It was unbeliveable! I was not expecting to get engaged and especially not at the airport. It was awesome and the best part was that all my family were there. It was a memorable day and I can’t wait to get married to Jamie. We will be getting married in September 2007! Jamie means everything to me, and I’m so excited to start our life together as husband and wife.
Adam and I had been together for almost five years. During 2006 we were challenged with a few of life’s obstacles. We were excited to buy our first house together but then were set back when I was diagnosed with skin cancer. Adam stuck by me throughout my surgery and recovery. He was my rock. No matter what we met along our path we took it on together.
We had discussed marriage and he had always said that he would never propose in a common way. It would be something completely unexpected. This holiday season my Grandma and Aunt came in from Scotland to spend the holiday with us, as well as my brother coming up from the U.S. with his wife. My brother had not been home for Christmas in 4 years and my Grandma had not been here in 13 years. It was a great day, we had so much fun and good food. Just as the festivities were ending I turned around and saw Adam down on one knee. I was absolutely stunned. I could hardly speak. He said how much he loves me and would be honoured if I’d be his wife. I could hardly get the words out through my tears of joy. All the women in the house shared in my tears and excitement.
It was so great for it to be in front of such special people. My parents, my brother and sister-in-law, my 76-year-old Nana and my very special Aunt.
After some champagne, Adam told me that he did something traditional because I never would have expected him to propose that way. And he was right. It ended a rollercoaster year in the most amazing way.
We’re now planning a 2008 wedding!
We planned a trip to India. We had been dating for over three years and he wanted me to meet his family. While we were there we did a lot of sight seeing including the Taj Mahal (the Monument of Love ).
While we were at the Taj Mahal, we decided to have a photographer take our picture in front on the Taj Mahal. While we were having our picture taken, he had the ring box beside him and I was absolutely clueless that he was about to propose.
The photographer asked us to do a different pose and my fiance stood up and turned around and got down on one knee, I was so surprised I did nothing but cry for a few minutes while everyone started to crowd around us and the photographer was still taking pictures the whole time, so we have the entire proposal in scene by scene pictures, with the Taj Mahal in the back ground.
Well, after dating for almost four years, we both had found that being together during the holidays was something of a must. Being that his family is eight hours away, he chose to go home for Christmas three days early. Before he left, he handed me a CD that was supossed to be viewed before Christmas. As I sat and watched pictures of our years spent together flashing on the computer screen, I sobbed at the loneliness during this holiday. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t going to be there for Christmas. I couldn’t believe how beautiful this CD was and realized I had the best boyfriend ever.
Christmas morning he phoned me from his cell phone saying he was opening presents at Grampa’s and is using his cell phone outside because it was too noisy inside. Little did I know he was an hour and half away from my house. Later, he and his mom showed up at my house bearing gifts and Christmas Cheer.
Thinking that this was the most amazing present ever, it wasn’t done. He had stuffed me a stocking which he never has done so I was so impressed. As I emptied my stocking piece by piece I felt a small ring box at the bottom, my heart pounding faster, I took it out, looked around, opened it and…. ha ha, nice joke, out pops a Hershey’s Kiss. Looking around at everyone (mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, and his mom ) I laughed and said nice joke. As I turned back toward my boyfriend, he got up, walked across the livingroom, got down on bended knee and infront of everyone, PROPOSED!
I couldn’t even say yes I was crying so hard, so a nod it was. After my brother saying that a nod won’t hold up in court, I sqeeked a tiny yes and that was that. My Christmas in a nut shell.
I’ve got a pretty good story…
He proposed on Christmas day 2005 in front of his entire family. In his family everyone opens up their gifts one by one, saving the “biggest” presents for last and it takes hours. Well, every year I’d hope for a proposal but had already gotten the idea out of my head because I didn’t think it would happen (even though we just had our six year anniversary, so I was getting pretty antsy).
Well, we get down to the final gifts and it turns out I am last. There is a huge box for me, so I was sure it wasn’t a ring. Then I open it and there are a bunch of small wrapped gifts inside that each have a note attached. He said “They are in no particular order except you have to open that one last.” Okay, so I grab the first one and the note says “Because you put a song in my heart” and I open the gift and it’s a CD he made for me of all our favorite love songs. Then there are four more gifts including a candybar with a note saying “Because you’re the sweetest girl I know” and a one pound weight with a note saying “Because you make me stronger” (awww – I was totally teary at this point).
Then I get to what I think is the last box, and the note says “Because you make me feel warm and fuzzy” and inside is a BATHROBE I had asked for. So, everyone is totally confused and he says, “Wait, you have to try it on.” I do and lo-and-behold, the ring is in the front pocket of the bathrobe! I immediately start sobbing, and everyone starts cheering and jumping up and down.
We got married seven-and-a-half months later. I don’t know how he’ll ever top that Christmas gift!
I have an amazing proposal from an amazing guy. I had decieded that we were going to go out to the mountains (Banff/Canmore) on the weekend to just get out of the city for a day. He said sure! So we get out to Canmore not knowing what we were going to do so we went to the visitor’s centre and were looking at pamphlets of things to do in the area when he suggested we look at taking a helicopter tour. Knowing my boyfriend at the time I knew something was up because he is somewhat cheap and would not go on a helicopter tour just for the sake of going on a tour. So I went along with his plan and said sure! I thought that he would propose in mid flight, but he had chartered a helicopter (which he planned for 3 weeks!) which touched down in the middle of the mountains and as the pilot was taking pictures of us he proposed. We have pictures of the entire proposal thanks to our piolt. Then when we got back and were landing I saw our parents there. It was such an amazing day and we had great weather so we really enjoyed the mountains (one of our favorite things!)
Adam took me to see Beauty and the Beast on stage for our anniversary, which I was expecting it to take place there. I was kind of dissapointed that at the end of the night it didn’t happen, but I never said a word about it. A couple days later I came home from work to a home made dinner, a spotless apartment, and Adam on one knee in the hallway. He explained that he had planned it for that night, but the ring he ordered didn’t come in on time and wasn’t going to for another month. He cancelled that ring order, made me dinner, proposed, and then took me out to pick my own ring. It may not be romantic, but it’s still a good story to tell the kids one day
My proposal is a little bit different then everyone elses. Kyle and I were supposed to go away for the long July weekend and I was supposed to plan where we were going. Well, I ran out of time and didn’t plan anything, so we decided to stay home. We are big baseball fans and love to play, so he told me to grab my glove and we were going to the local elementary school to throw around(this is not unusual for us). After a couple throws he threw one over my head, and said he had another one in his bag. We started throwing again and he told me to look at the seams on the ball, and written in marker said ” Will you marry me”, on the baseball. He walked up to me and got on one knee and proposed. It couldn’t have been a better proposal. We are getting married this July 5th/08.
David had made the decision weeks before He actually proposed and had the ring hidden in his truck. On the anniversary of when we began dating he gave me a picture frame and an appointment time to have portraits done. Everyone from my Best friend and now Maid of Honour to the photographer at the studio was in on it. It started with teh classic picture of both of us and then one of each of us then a fun one with me wearing a halo and him in a fidora… Then the photographer brought out a prop rose and said how about one where David gives me the rose … At which point he said “I have something better” and brought out the ring … looking at me he said “You can marry me if you want” The answer of yes was more of a head nodd and look of shock. But he understood. And one May 2nd 2009 we will be Husband and Wife
At the Airport to go to Punta Cana
Paul had his carry-on on his back locked up. Tanya asked to put a magazine in his back-pack. He responded by saying “no, you can carry it”. This wasn’t the response Tanya was expecting from her more than affectionate boyfriend. So quick to snap back she said “Fine. I don’t know who pissed in your corn flakes but you better snap out of it”.
The DAY of the PROPOSAL September 9, 2007:
Under strict instructions, Paul was advised to remain calm and relaxed by this friends. Which he did. We swam, drank and took a lot of pictures that day. We went back to our room and got ready for dinner. Right when we were getting ready to leave here comes the infamous camcorder he brought along with him. So the filming begins. We’re under the same gazebo we went to earlier in the afternoon. Paul asked her what she thought. Tanya said “I don’t want to go away to get married. Let’s hit the road. I’m hungry and I feel uncomfortable because we’re not getting engaged or married and that guy keeps looking at us strange”. Paul was very nervous and knew he wanted to ask there that night but the stupid bus filled with people kept on passing by so he didn’t ask at the gazebo because Tanya was focused on getting something to eat. So she continued to push him closer to the restaurants.
Paul’s 2nd attempt to PROPOSE:
With the shattered dreams, he comes up with his original idea that may work for his distracted girlfriend. Paul still didn’t learn not to mess with a woman that’s hungry. So he says “let’s go for a walk on the beach”. The sun was setting and it would have been really romantic. Tanya said “ummmm. No thanks. We were at the beach all day and I just took a shower. I don’t want to be dirty before dinner. Can we go eat?” At this point he was pissed. Paul didn’t want to eat.
Paul’s 3rd attempt to PROPOSE:
He then says “Let’s go to the lobby”. Tanya says “Great idea it’s right beside the restaurant”. So we slowly walk there. There was a statue that Tanya couldn’t stop looking at. We decided to take a few pictures. Tanya gave up playing around with the digital because Paul wasn’t smiling in any of the shots. Tanya could see how nervous Paul looked. So Paul says “You know I love you?” There was a very long pause. Tanya says “I know. Are you ok, what’s wrong?” Paul concerned that Tanya might catch on and ruin the surprise had to act quick. He originally goes down on one knee but he was so nervous he ends up on both knees and spits out “I was wondering if you will spend the rest of your life with me?”. Tanya the queen of a million comebacks had nothing to say, except “oh my god” She was too busy crying. Then it dawned on her while Paul is till kneeling with both knees on the ground that she had to say something. So guess what her answer was?
YES….
We had been together 2 years. It was Christmas 2007-we had been through a lot that year. A bad miscarriage, and a few serious diseases I was dealing with. On top of that my parents were splitting up because my Dad cheated on my mom… He was my rock through all of it. I knew I wanted to marry him.
Christmas 2007 came along… He told me that he couldn’t get me anything because we were moving and didn’t have lots of money. Which was fine, I wasn’t angry. We went outside (where you could perfectly hear the sound of the Transiberian Orchestra coming from inside the house) and played in the snow. He knew I had never had a snowball fight before – so we did that! We build a snowman too (sounds childish but the simplest things make me happy).
It was getting too cold for our liking, so we went to sit on the porch. The snow was falling, the sky was a beautiful dark coulour with stars freckled all over. The music playing, the porch light… He said “Jenn, I love you more than anything, you know that right? And I would do anything for you. We have been through so much this year and I want to make it all better. We have gotten through everything together in the past, and I want to get through everything together for the rest of our lives. Will you make me a happy man and say you’ll be my wife?” And he proposed with a beautiful gold solitare ring! I was crying so much, I was so happy. I went in the house and my mom was crying because she knew what was happening!
We have our wedding date set for July 10th 2010. I love him so much!
I actually didn’t really know how romantic FH was until he proposed.
He knows I really LOVE mountains and snow so last Christmas, we went to Montreal to visit family and friends and we had talked about going snowboarding in St-Sauveur for a day while we were in QC. On the way to Sauveur, he looked like he was going to be sick – LITERALLY! I thought he was really nervous because he’s not used to snowboarding or skiing.
So we did a few runs and at one point, I turn around and he wasn’t there. I was a little annoyed because it was dark and we didn’t have cell phones on us. Anyway, I finally found him sitting down by a lamp post, so I went up to him and he said he was hurt. Next thing I knew, he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I felt like I was in a fairy tale! It was so awesome, being with my sweetie, surrounded by snow and snowy trees. We both teared up (OK, I was balling my eyes out), it was so sweet. When we left the mountain, it was snowing, it was absolutely beautiful.
It was nice that he proposed over the holidays because we got to see family and friends on New Year’s Eve and announce our engagement in person.
I’m been living in northand Alberta for 4 years and never been in Banff yet. So my boyfriend’s (fiance) sister in law, deside to invite us to go camping with them on July long week-end (Canada Day) in Banff. By the way, that was him (my fiance) inviting them to celebrated our engagment week-end… I find out after. So cute:) Anyway, he plan an icefield helicopter tour for both of us then proposed to me on the top of a water fall, thats not all. After I said yes, he had a small bottle of champagne and two flutes in his back pack. That was just…. so romantic and cute! I’m still speech less. We came back to the campground and celebrated with familly and another suprise… He reserve a table in a elegant restaurant for supper. It was so good! And the bottle of wine we had…..Great!!
My boyfriend just proposed last night and we are the happiest people in the world! My story is pretty simple compared to the very romantic ones posted here but I think there are probably other girls who can relate to mine. I knew my ring was coming because we picked out a setting together. My boyfriend had to drive to his hometown to pick it up. He was gone for two nights and when he finially came back I was waiting with open arms. I also made sure my nails were polished and I looked great. It was 8:30pm and and pouring rain outside. We live with my mom for the summer by a lake in the country. So there was no where to go that was romantic or gave us more privacy then our bedroom. He had me sit down on the side of our bed and close my eyes. He said he wanted to have a sunset close by but we both knew we wanted to do it now. I started to cry and he grabbed the ring box, got down on one knee and said, Jen will you marry me and grow old with me? I couldn’t even talk. We hugged and started laughing. He asked me again to make sure I said yes. After we enjoyed our moment we shared it with my mom and took lots of pictures. Then I remembered my engagement gift for him, a silver necklace with a cross pendent. He loved it and it was nice to give him a gift too. We called his family on the phone and toasted red wine with friends next door. Isn’t getting proposed to the best?! I wish it could happen every day!
My birthday was lucky this year in more ways than one. 08-08-08 was the day of my 26th birthday (2+6=8) and at 8:08pm my wonderful boyfriend proposed in front of my family and friends. He had been planning it for the last few months and everybody knew but me. He had organized with my parents to plan a birthday party for me, my sisters knew what was going on and bought me a dress and jewellery to wear. During the party my boyfriend called me inside, I remember looking at the clock on the stove in my kitchen and it read 8:07, thats when it clicked in my mind that something big was going to happen. My boyfriend got down on one knee in front of my parents, his dad …and my uncles, aunts and friends following behind, and asked me to be his wife and presented me with the ring of my dreams. Of course i said YES!!! The number 8 represents wealth and prosperity so our life together is certain to be blessed.
I had kind of suspected Brad would propose back in March when the ring I loved at his friends store was gone and so was some of his tax return. In May we bought a house and life went extremely crazy for a bit ending with me in a 4 day coma cause by viral encephalitis. So needless to say the ring was the furthest thing from my mind. When all the craziness settled we decided to take a trip to Las Vegas for a week and drive to Malibu for a night. We ended up deciding that driving to Malibu wasn’t really affordable. I was bummed out since I have never really been to the ocean. Brad told me he would make it up to me with a surprise.
On August 27 we spent the whole day walking the strip, I bugged him all day about my surprise. That night for supper he took me to the Eiffel Tower Resturant at Paris our table faced out on the strip with an amazing view of the Bellagio fountions. I am pretty cheap so Brad just kept telling me to order whatever and not worry about the price, a girl came by to take our picture me being cheap didn’t want to but he insisted saying it would be a great memory. The dinner and wine were amazing when we were done eatting the fountions started going again. I told Brad that the night was perfect and he told me it’s not perfect yet and then got down on one knee and said this will make it perfect he reached into his pocket pulled out the ring and then asked me to marry him. It was the best romantic surprise I have ever experienced and I am really happy now that we spent the money on the picture of us.
Nick and I had been dating for some time and then I discovered that I was pregnant. We were at the bus stop, waiting for the bus, so we could go to the hospital. I was all scared about telling my family about the child because then if we ever got married my family would think that, “Oh he doesn’t really love her, he’s just marrying her cause he got her pregnant”. So he looks at me and he asks, “How does this engagement thing work anyways?” And I told him, “Well, you ask me to marry me, then I say yes and then you act all happy and kiss me.” He says, “Oh,” Then pauses and looks at me most sincere, “Will you marry me?” And I say yes, and I laugh. He acts all happy, puts a twist-tie around my finger because he doesn’t have a ring and kisses me, then tells me that he was planning to propose on Christmas anyways. We haven’t had the wedding yet, but ever since then he refers to me as his wife and considers us married anyways.
